Converting Jackson stars to OFR7

has anyone thought about this? you could get such a totally freakin pimp guitar this way... i was considering the RR7-J2B as a great stage guitar modded with either Dimarzio Blaze pickups or my beloved EMG's and an OFR7 or something of the sort

this guitar would be Alder Neck-through too.. imagine (with a freakin EBONY fretboard)
the guitar is around $1000 depending on exchange rates etc... do you think ill have room for a trem cavity and EMG 707/ 81-7's? and if i do could someone recommend me to a luthier who they have experience with to do this?

also how much would this mod cost?

I don't know the space that has on the pups, but i see that it's bigger because has those pup rings (maybe i'm wrong).

You can put the EMGs, if they don't enter, you will have to route a little bit, but then if you want to go back you can solve it with the "I don't want strange pups on my guitar", know as EMG pup rings or something like that.

You are talking seriously about the OFR? So i see why you have red reputation

Just my 2 cents.

'jackson', 'death/shred metal', 'floyd rose', and 'EMG' are hated words on this board...

i know ill have to route it... specifically though would i be able to replace the nut with a locking one or would my best bet be to just install locking tuners

again i plan on going to a luthier with this job
also would routing it for the FR cover the holes from the tuneomatic?

The nut area would have to be routed to accept a locking nut, but it could be done. Since you'd be having a luthier do the work, I'm sure they could do it. Have you considered getting a "semi-custom" order through Ishibashi or Ikebe? Jackson Stars could probably make you a RR7-J2 w/Floyd and EMGs for no more than you'd pay to get all of that modding done.

Man get a custom guitar with the specs that you want, it's going to take some nice money to do those mods to the guitar, i think that you will be more comfortable with a custom guitar with all the things that you want.

Just my 2 cents.

I think if they'll do it this is probably the way to go. If they won't another option that would require far less routing would be to go with a Kahler for the trem

My biggest concern would be the neck angle. Modern Floyd installs have a lot shallower neck angle, and the OFR-7 doesn't have the long block option needed to top mount it. Likely the string cavity would have to be deeper than usual to reach the bottom of the block. As jacksonplayer already said, you would probably be better off placing a semi-custom order, considering how much work would be required.

The string ferrels would almost certainly still show from under the tail of the Floyd.

Frank, you need to stop using that.

Or maybe you have lots of cents?

Oh, and guitarplayerone - that is utter bollocks. Shred/death = look at all the Rusty Cooley fans, and all the Morbid Angel/Cannibal Corpse etc. fans...
Floyd Rose? Show me how many Ibanez 7's, outside of the GiO, RG73/4/621 and RG7EXFX there are and I bet you can count them on one hand. Point? Floyd rose isn't hated. That is equivalent to saying "Low 'B' is hated on the board.
And Jackson? eaeloian, vegatathepuppet and jacksonplayer, for fucks sake, never shut up about them. Open your eyes yet further.

EDIT:To answer your earlier questions, I wouldn't say the money you are putting into is worth it. There is a lot of wood to be cut, shaped, removed, screwed onto, etc. and I really cannot see a Floyd fitting on there - they tend to need to be 'lower' - if you look at TOM beside a FR, the strings pass the Floyd much closer to the body, so unless you were going to adjust the neck pitch (kinda hard on a neckthrough) it really isn't going to happen...

heh i do get flamed for it though...

thanks all for your contributions... now what is the opinion on a schaller/locking tuner alternative?
does floyd make a non-recessed/old school/top mount etc... seven string tremolo?

would i have to adjust the neck with either of those? (cause i cant)
i might even consider this guitar ::shudder:: without a FR...

just so sexy
