Trems on 7's

I'm still debating on whether to go 7 string, but i need to know some things about 7 string floyds.

Last time I played a 7 string, it was at guitar center here. I think it was a C-7 Hellraiser. It was nice, but it was boring.

I thought to myself that its probably the fact it doesn't have a trem. So, I started to look at 7 string trems, and I found the Schecter C-7 FR. This looks like a good deal, but since I'll mostly be playing nevermore, will this be a bad thing? I know Nevermore tunes a half step down on their 7 strings on some of their songs.

I just want to know if it's worth the trouble of re-stringing and tuning that a 7 string with a floyd on it will keep my excitement up. I really want to play 7 string, and I'm trying to convince myself to hit the "buy" button!!

You may want to check out a Tremolo-No, it stablizes the trem and make tuning easier.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

well do you have experience with 6er floyds?
if not i would just go with a hard tail for your first seven.....then later you can always get something with a trem.

You could equip the fixed Schecter with a Kahler hybrid 7 - which can be locked & unlocked (floating) via a built-in hex screw.

The Ibanez ZR trem is by far the best floyd-type trem available imo. It's currently only available on the S-series 7string. It's got a dis-engageable 'Backstop' feature which puts it into a non-floating (but still useable) mode and helps with tuning ease.

The ZR isn't really "Floyd type".

Ok "Floyd inspired" then. It's certainly closer to a floyd than a Kahler or Steinberger, but if you're in the business of making Floyd-compatible parts then yah you're absolutely right.

I'm not sure I follow you on that.

What I was thinking there was that I can understand that - seeing as you make a very cool device which is compatible with Floyd trems - you would see the ZR as being quite different from them.

Edit: While we're on the subject I'll just add my opinion that the main thing I like about the ZR is the ball-bearings instead of the knife edges. I like the Backstop feature as well, but I think the Tremol-no would be much more useful because of it's flexibility and how quickly you can engage/disengage it.

Have you ever installed a Tremol-no in a ZR Kevan?

I didn't come to this thread to sell anything.
I came here to provide some knowledge and expertise on trems, namely the 7-string versions.

The ZR trems are cool, and super-smooth. The ball-bearing design has been around for a LONG time, but only recently incorporated into production trems. While the ZR does have a "backstop" feature, it doesn't have a Dive Only or Hardtail setting. It sure is smooth though.

The ZR differs from the Floyd (and others) in many ways. Check out the trem cavity on a ZR-equipped guitar sometime. Compare it to a Floyd or a 'vintage' trem. You'll see why I put the ZR in a different category outside of Floyds. I do the same with Parkers, Steinbergers, a few Kahlers, Bigsbys, Stetsbars, torsion-bar systems, etc.

Sorry, but the Tremol-No does not work with the ZR trems.

Nevermore play in the same tuning on almost all of their songs. Their are like 2 or 3 exceptions. Anyway, If youw ant true Nevermoreness you should get the new Jeff Loomis model coming out later this year (probably). It has EMGs and a original floyd! AND A MAPLE FB!
