Question on Basswood

i have an ibanez 1527 prestige and the finish was getting on my nerves lately so i decided to strip it down. i used 60 grit to get past the clear coating and 80 to get down to the wood, then 100 and 150 to smooth it out. it looks absolutely amazing and it only has a few mineral patches. i know basswood is a very open grain wood so im guessing il have to put an activator on it so it will hold a natural wood stain better. is there any kind of chemical that will dull the green mineral patches so that i can stain over it? does anyone recommend a type or brand of activator or wood stain that would best suit my needs?

Ive actually used minwax stain followed by liberal coats of high gloss tung oil and had great success on poplar. I would assume the same would work for basswood as poplar also has the green mineral lines.
