my sucky flash pics don't really show the depth of the stain. it looks pretty cool with the chrome hardware. the neck plays well, super-thin like all 540S7s. the bridge pickup is a TZ7 + A8 magnet, and it has a huge super-thick high gain sound--the brightness of the alder really opens up the dark sound of the TZ7. the Anderson single-coil sounds really crisp and clucky like a Strat. the body and the finish aren't perfect--this was my S7 prototype, built before my mahogany one. but it sounds really good--i will definitely use alder for a 7-string build again.

Sorry for my english

it came out great, but one reason i used nitro was because i can get it in spray-cans and i don't own a spray-gun.

heh! part of it is the bright wood (i also have the TZ7 in a solid maple guitar that i built, and that brightens it even more). but part of it is also that i like dark tones, and i don't like sharp sizzly high end. i tried an Evo7 once and hated it--too shrill. so the combination of brighter wood and my preference for dark tones is what made it sound good to me through my amp--YMMV.

the A8 magnet of course helps too!

I wouldn't want to sound like Petrucci, so I'd say no
I'd go for PAF 7, let that mahogany tone breathe.
