Question Trying to choose my first 7-string

Well, I've been playing regular six-string guitars for a while and thought I would try to get into seven-strings, but I have no idea which guitar to get.

The two I'm looking at now are the Schecter C-7 and the Ibanez RG1720. Is one better than the other?

Also, can anyone recommend me any other decent 7-strings for around 1000 US dollars or less?

Peace.

for around $1k you can pick up an Ibanez Universe, which is just about the pimp'n-est Ibanez 7 around.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I was marveling at the Universe earlier on Music123, but I believe the price tag is more in the $2400+ range, whereas the RG1527 is around $1000.

Never heard of the RG1720

For <$1000 you can get an RG1527 or a used UV. Schecters are also nice in terms of quality, but you may not like the thicker neck.

Is it really safe to by a used guitar over the internet? It seems like it would be really easy to get a broken, fake, or defective guitar like that.

Also, is there any appreciable difference between the Universe and the RG1527 besides the pickups and appearance?

If you think about, buying anything online has its risks, even on non-auction sites. There are fake versions of nearly every consumer product out there, so it's just a matter of being smart and careful. Good communication between the seller and the buyer is especially important on eBay. Paypal is generally pretty good with working out any money issues, so I wouldn't rule out eBay.

As far as the difference between the UV and the RG, I'm pretty sure they're made of the same woods and have the same features except the pickguard. However, the neck profile is a little fatter on the UV, so if you're not familiar with either one, you should try them out yourself.
