Customising My Epiphone 7-string V

I resprayed my old strat copy (my first guitar) last summer to bright orange as orange is my favourite colour and it's looking pretty swish. I just need to clear-coat it and it's ready to be reassembled, strung up with 12's and put tuned a whole step down.

My next project is the Epiphone flying V 7-string that I have been unsuccessful in selling on two occasions. It's not a bad guitar but it does come with a few minor problems that, at the time of sale, I couldn't be arsed to fix and so priced it accordingly. Turns out no one else could be bothered to fix either so I've still got it and decided I may as well keep it as a backup.

I'm unsure of colours to go for, I found a metallic lilac that looks awesome but with a white pickguard it looks gay as a goose so I'm looking for a colour thats still kind of odd looking but still compliments the white pickguard well. It's currently black and I'm not a big fan of black to be honest -- I am tempted to paint it white but I hear thats a bitch to get looking consistant.

Any suggestions?

The problems that I've got with it at the moment are that it the toggle switch is shot, it acts more like a killswitch than anything else and thats not good when you actually want to select the neck pickup. I also have no idea how to set up guitars and this is really badly set up, in some cases the strings are resting on the fretboard and really tought.

The final problem is the tuners are ugly as sin.

I might be adding a killswitch to this guitar as well but I'm not 100% on it yet.

More words here is more words.

I've been tempted to check one of these Epi V7 jobs out just so i could make it into a look a like of my White '79 Gibson V.
How well do they play really ?
Can you get the action decent on them without a lot of fret-buzz and are the necks real chunky ?
I suppose i could always slim the back of the neck down a bit anyway, but you've always gotta' be careful with that shit when you're not sure how deep the truss-rod goes.
Do you have any pics of it ?

You don't really see too many for sale here in the UK either do you ?
I'll have to hope one turns up cheap at some point when i've got a bit of cash to spare (prob. never knowing my luck ).

When I first got the guitar the action was a bit shit and I have no idea how to set up a guitar and, at that point in time, didn't have the money to get it done at a guitar shop such as Sound Control. It was so bad it was pretty unplayable and so for that reason I can't really answer your question there I'm afraid.

The neck is quite chunky and for some reason the neck is heavier than the body and it regularly slides when your playing it standing up.

I could get some pics of it during easter and I'll pm you a link. It's a very nice guitar and I got it for a very decent £255 (including p+p) off Ebay. I've only seen one other one on their since and I think it was going for around the same price.

Sounds like a cool option
If you could find a pair of the PAF7's that come stock in the K7(the grey ones) that would be the bollocks!

Heck, just leave all the hardware on there! Knobs, pickups, tailpiece... but mask off or remove any moving parts.
