Other than the neck through addition...that is my guitar. Mahogany takes some mids out but that can be solved with proper pickup selection. Just do your homework based on what you are looking for.

Cedar have the warmest sound(personal experience).
Mahogany with a good maple top sounds very warm to.

), i've been liking koa ALOT on my newest carvin, very bright and articulate but also very warm. for the sound you describe, it's worth looking into.

my new Carvin 7 is all mahogany with the maple quilt on it, maple board and
SS jumbo frets and it sounds great. Nice and full, yet still sharp and clear.
I have a GMW custom strat on it's way (bolt on neck though) that is a mahogany body with a maple quilt on it , but with a birdseye maple neck and a bound cocobolo fret board. I'm thinking that's going to sound pretty sweet too.
(if it ever freaking gets here.............10 months now and still waiting

Koa, softmaple(bigleaf-not hard maple), lacewood,sitka,spruce,mahogany,cedar.
Personaly I prefer koa-and a cheaper alternative is mahogany, wich is very much like KOA. The sound of KOA is like sounds from alder & mahogany mixed together. Sweet stuff. I would use all KOA with either a brazillian rosewood or cocobolo fretboard. I believe an all palisander rosewood guitar with a brazillian rosewood fretboard would be a warm thrash bomb as well.
