SH-8 Invaders 7-string?

Hi

I've decided to change the pickups on my 1527CB, they are actually crap, plus I'm used to having EMG's so well, it's the bussiness.

Now, I read that the the 7 string EMG's (707's and 81-7's) are housed in the 35 bass pickup body, meaning I'll have to route my guitar which I really don't wanna do, so that's TOTALLY out of the question.

Now, among the passive pickup realm for 7 strings, I'm looking for the ONE pickup that has the highest output of all. I was looking at DiMarzios and Duncans and well, I found out that apparently the SH-8 Invader is the higher one.

Any first hand experience? How will these sound compared to an EMG 81?

I have EMG 707's in one seven and SH-8 Invaders in another, and although it took me a while to get a good tone out of the one with the SH-8's (they can be very aggressive) once you find it, you find it...my advice, keep the pick-ups very low, lower than most, the ceramic polls are HUGE and my biggest battle occured cause my first instinct was to jack up the pup...keep those SH-8 as low as possible, then raise them a touch at a time till you're happy, going to high creates not only mud, but buzzes and all kinds of shit!

Lots of people say Lundgren passive pickups have output and clarity that compares very well to active pickups. Check out the thread here about Conklin now selling them in North America.

I think Invaders suck flat out. If you like EMGs you'll probably hate the invader, because despite being high output, the tone curve is actually dead opposite of an EMG81. If you want a super boomy low end sound with a scooped EQ on your amp (ala Nu Metal sound) then the Invader might be up your alley, otherwise I say look elsewhere.

I have to disagree based on first hand experience, having now Emg 707's, Duncan Invader Sh-8's, and Custom DiMarzio's...like I said you just need to set the pups, and play with your gain and so on...but I have one setting for all three pup styles and they all sound great...if you want, and this is to the poster, I can provide soundclips...

Yeah, I've heard clips of Lundgrens A/B'd against EMG's, and frankly the lundgrens owned. Pricey, but cheaper than buying EMG's and paying someone to route for them...

Bareknuckle Warpigs are supposed to be quite good, too.

Thanks, clips would be great. I was used to the mid range of EMG 81's but actually I need output to overdrive the amp, I guess I can play with the amps EQ to obtain the desired tone, meanwhile, all I need is output.

If you have clips of Invaders (better if comparison clips with EMG's or DiMarzios are posted too ) , that'd be great, also, if you specify the type of amp/guitar used and settings, that'd be awesome. Oh, please, let the clip be of a METAL song, as in death or thrash metal non-bassy-booming nu-metal riffs.

You need more output to overdrive your amp? Um... what sort of an amp are you using, a Fender Twin?

Wow that's a request and a half...I'll compare the three pups, I'll list my gear and I'll play a Maiden like riff...this weekend ...
