Carvin DC727

This feels like the first time I ever posted here

When I joined this group of merry men/woman, there where 2 guitars that I was drooling over, the Carvin DC727 and the Ibanez RG1527.

Well, eventually the Ibanez won, since this place was a jemsite vol. 2 at that time And it was easier to get...

Well, I didn't get the Carvin, and now I am seriously drooling over them. I never got rid of that Carvin gas.

I am seriously thinking of buying a DC727 since my Hellraiser needs a friend.

Here's what I have been thinking:
-colour: Pearl White
-Fretboard: birdseye maple with no inlays (Like on the Jackson PC)

Other than that, totally stock.(I don't know about the PU's yet)

What are your opinions and experiences with these guitars. And this time, don't recommend the RG1527

And don't get me wrond, the 1527 was an awesome guitar, but I just got tired of the bridge, so I got the Hellraiser which I feel more comfortable with. I am not going to get rid of the Hellraiser, this one I am going to keep.

Nipples is a jewel in the rough
Good choice

But black hardware upgrade?

Id compare the feel of one to an LTD 7, except with a fretboard/frets that are 10,000 times nicer.

PS, thanks for the gas

Nice choice of color, birdseye maple fretboard sounds nice too. I've always loved the Carvin 7-strings. I played Keith's at the Mass-area SS.Org meet and it just made me want one even more. That'll look nice^.

As for an RG 1527, I played one not too long ago and I liked it alot. I really liked how the neck looked and felt. The color, Royal Blue is very nice too.

i own 2 DC727s, i can't say enough good things about them. they're nearly perfect in every way (for me anyway). do it! all you'll be out is shipping (about $20) if you decide to send it back. good choice with the birdseye maple w/ no inlays

I think I will go with Gold hardware as well.

It looks like I am going to be ordering one soon. Like I said, I have been in contact with the company that imports Carvins and it's looking good.

The prices are higher in Finland since the "factory direct" sales are USA only, but the guitar is still very cheap if you compare them to other Custom guitars.

Apart from all the cosmetic stuff, which is all a matter of preference, here are recommendations as a DC747 owner:

1. Get the 6100 jumbo frets. Carvin's standard "medium jumbo" frets are a lot more medium than jumbo. If you like the Hellraiser's frets, you'll much prefer the 6100 fret option on the Carvin. Consider going stainless steel with them, too.

2. At least get mahogany body wings, and possibly go all mahogany with it. Carvins are ridiculously bright-sounding. I got mine used and ended up with maple/alder, but I definitely would have ordered mine all mahogany had I bought it new.

3. Don't worry about what color pickups or such. You're going to want to replace the sucktacular Carvin pickups immediately anyway. They really are that bad, and Noodles can back me up on that.

The stock Carvins pickups sound decent enough in all mahogany, for fusion type playing anyway. You may still change them, but the dire need to do so goes away in mahogany. I would also recommend going with the stainless frets; I personally like the medium jumbos. Tung oiled neck is a big plus, as is the 2 piece mahogany neck. I would avoid the maple neck/alder body combo like the plague; I've had two of them and couldn't get the sound I wanted out of either no matter what I changed the pickups to (again, I don't play metal. YMMV ).
There has been mountains of recent talk about 727s here as well; just do a little searching and you'll find all kinds of relevant information.

Thanks guys for all the info

Too bad the Carvin website seems to be down. I must take a closer look at the options when I can access the website.

This might turn out to be too expensive anyway, because the guitar is over 1400€ (over 1800dollars...) with the options I mentioned before. Bugger

Get stainless steel frets! You won't regret it, and you'll never go back to nickel. I have them on my 747.
