Mahogany

If you have a 7 with mahongany body won't the sound be too mushy.
And not wishable for progressive math metal (djent)?

How the mahogany body affects your tone is dependent on pickup choice and EQ settings among other things. The guitar being made out of mahogany is just one contributing factor to your signal chain and it alone won't be the difference between a good and bad sound for "djent".

And to add to that, there are loads of types of mahogany and two pieces from the same tree might sound very different too.

Mahogany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia couldn't resist.

Honestly, mahogany adds some growl imho, and that can be eq'ed to your favor...whatever you decide to play.

Honestly, "classic" djent tone is pretty much compress the .... out of everything and boost the shit out of mids, I can get djent tone out of my basswood, mahogany, maple or swamp ash bodied guitars just fine. Hell, you could get awesome djent tone using siberian icewood.

Also like the others said, wood species doesnt matter as much as the quality of it.

Slam it hard going in with compression and/or overdrive, and then roll back the amp gain until it barely loses the mush and fuzz.
Like already said, keep plenty of mids and treble at all stages and roll the bass off just enough to stay tight.

Anyways, I'm a huge fan of Mahogany....It can be used for any style as stated, Depends on your pickups, EQ, amp/cab ect.

I personally don't play anything in the "Djent" genre but I prefer the tone of it for what I play.

The project that I'm working on is so secret... Even I don't know what I'm doing!

Mahogany won't make or break your djent sound, but your amp and pick ups will.

I have an all-mahogany guitar, even though I would not touch djent with a ten-foot pole

I use Duncan Fullshreds in it to counteract any possibly muddyness, and I get a crazy-good deep growl.

Nothing wrong with Mahogany, but I would think Alder would be better. Nice and punchy.

i love mahogany. def adds growl that you dont quite get with alder. I dont like any other wood as much but then again im not much of a djent-elman in my playing. Like said above, the pickups and amp will play a bigger role.

This, modern prog metal doesn't have to sound so thin and annoying.

I digg mahogany, it has more character and it's more present in d sound than lets say basswood or alder. It's like a dark canvas to work with I like it, specially with a maple top.

^ Mahogany (or korina) + maple cap = sonic goodness.

Mahogany = mud = myth.

i can get a killer palm mute attack with my lp studio with a painkiller in the bridge. with the right amp settings, pickup, and technique, you'll have no problem getting all djenty and shit with mahogany.

My, arent you charming...

Dr. Mosh hit on a very overlooked fact. What kind of guitar are you trying to get in the first place?

A generic "is mahogany good?" question is redundant and silly to be blunt. Not all guitars sound the same (an ibanez s does NOT sound like a les paul for instance), and different types of mahogany sound different as well.
