White RGs always look so killer, and i'm really digging the matte white on yours. Looks great!

I dig. I agree that it would look nicer with a logo.

BTW, tuning to G on a 25,5 scale guitar means a bit of compromise in some cases. There's nothing wrong with your pickup, it's just the short scale for that tuning, I guess. You could confirm that if you'd tune to A for some weeks. For me, A always worked on that scale, but my guitars started to loose some definition when going lower. |

As for the work I spent on the guitar, it was really just a good amount of sanding in between the coats. I did around 7 moderate coats of paint, and I used 400 grit sandpaper to sand the paint in between every coat. The reason it took much longer then I expected was because in order to get the proper smooth matte finish, I had to use thicker coats of paint instead of light coats, which would ultimately dry faster. I had to put on a decent coat of paint(not too much though), and then I had to let it sit and fully dry before sanding and smoothing it out. I did this 7 times, so it did wind up taking a while. After finishing the coats of paint, I sanded down the final coat with #0000 steel wool to get a really nice smoothed out finish. I then proceeded to use 2 coats of matte finish sealer. The sealer is what really put the finishing touch on the guitar, and gave it that tough, durable, true matte finish. It was well worth it in the end though, as the final product is extremely smooth, and extremely durable. |

^Thanks for sharing those details. It was a hell lot of work for sure, and just looking at the pics, it was worth the effort.

l1ght, in the future, if you decide to do this again, check out catalyzed varnish. You can put it on thick as you want, and it will still be dry in the same amount of time.

Thank you! I really tried to go for the simplistic yet functional route here. That and the matching headstock part. :p |

What finish did you use for this? Is that gloss/satin?

Glad to see you finally got a 7421!
![]() Welcome to the club, bud hahaha Those pics honestly made me question the refinish I'm working on right now, but I'm gonna stick with it to the end! To the almighty one, unholy bearer of horns, empower me, flow through my veins, and carry me in war. To the unwavering, devoted to the dark, I drink these wines of majesty to you |

.... the logo. The "shaved" look works for the Euro car scene, so why not the MIJ guitar scene? As a fellow RG7421 owner, I love what you've done with it, but hate that you thought of it first haha.

Damn nice piece of work you ended up with man. This is really making me reconsider my refinish plans for my 7321. Well done, indeed. Also, if you're looking for a higher output bridge pup with good low end for this thing, the D-Activator is your friend.
