NGD - Carvin DC700, stealthy style.....

I'm not sure if I'm keeping this one or not. I had decided that my other Carvin DC727 wasn't nearly metal enough, so I made one similar to the DC800 stealth that you can see on this board if you google it.

They did make a mistake.... they forgot to put the dot inlays on that fretboard! That gives me a lot of trouble to play, so I will have to send the guitar back no matter what whether I'm keeping it or not.

Might keep it, but probably not. It seemed in my head, but a plain black top without being carved or anything looks painfully dull and kind of cheap. I think I should reorder something very similar but with a spalted maple top showing with a blackburst... anybody have experience with returning a guitar that they just didn't click with?

Ummm... I'll give you $500 for it! But seriously... I'd just learn to adjust to using the side markers. Your Carvin is a beauty.

Yeah as the guy above me said, you'll get used to not having dot inlays. I used to think I wouldn't but I proved myself wrong haha. Also I really like how it looks.

OMG that looks ....ing amazing.

The flat black goes so nice with the natural binding and ebony.

But totally, if its not what you wanted send it back. You paid a lot of money for it and waited a long time so if they screwed it up i would definitely send it back and get it at least how you wanted. They should be able to add the inlays in no problem.

But if you dont "click" with the guitar, still send it back. I mean sucks for carvin but thats why they have the 10 Day trial, ppl pay a lot of money for a guitar that they cant actually try first.

If you send it back it will end up in the "In stock" section and one of us can buy it

But srsly, Im about to order my first carvin with totally different specs than this but this could very well be inspiration for my 2nd one in the future!!

give yourself the 10 days to get used to no dots. i think having the dots would take away from what this guitar has going for it.

That guitar looks like sex. And you would be surprised how easy it is to play without inlays on the fretboard. And even if you do need some sort of fret markers. Side dots are the way to go.

Everything this poster said, if you ordered inlays and didn't get them, have Carvin fix it. That's a beautiful guitar though. Dibs if you decide to sell.

Thanks for the comments dudes!

Yeah, I'm going to put it through its paces until next Wednesday and see how I feel. Then I go on vacation so I have to send it back by then...

Aside from the top/headstock though, I do love the black! It's especially cool on the neck and fretboard.... black black black ....ing black everything is black! Cool.

I think it looks killer. It wasn't until I had my first no inlay guitar that I realized that I never look at the fretboard inlays anyway.

Can anyone see the fretboard inlays when they are standing up? I know when I look down all I see are the side dots.

IMO the dots would ruin the stealthy look. But yeah, return it if it doesn't work for you.

If you end up "clicking" with it, but still miss the dots, just buy some decals from evilbay. Can find all sorts of them there, pretty cheap. I'd bet good money that guitar wouldn't last more than a day or two before being resold, if you decided to return it.

I'm really digging the binding, I think that really sets it apart from being "painfully dull or kind of cheap". It looks super stealthy, but very classy.

Enjoy it!!!

I've never seen a Carvin spec'ed out like this. Very unique. The satin black with the natural binding? Some thought was put into that, congrats!

I haven't had dots for 10 years. You don't need no stinkin' dots!

That thing looks awesome. I would personally keep it the way it is. I went from playing guitars with Dot inlays to no inlays mid tour a few years ago. It was a challenge at first, especially with dark stages, but, after a very short while, it just came natural to use the side markers for reference and muscle memory helped for playing in the right position. I personally would keep that black beauty, but, as others said, get what you want in the end. It's your custom axe, and, playability is more important sometimes than aesthetics. Congrats on the guitar though! Sorry it wasn't to your specs from the get go.

In my opinion, I echo the thoughts of everyone else... fretboard dots would ruin the stealthy look. If it were me, I'd keep it. As others have said, it's really easy to get used to no dots and only relying on side dots. No other stringed instruments have dots, so be pro and show others you're not a noob.

In all seriousness though, if you CAN'T get used to it, call up Carvin and let them know you're not happy and see what they can do for you. Either way, I'd call up your sales rep ASAP and let him know of the error, but that you're thinking it over and you'll keep him updated on your decision. At least that way the error is logged, and it will start the conversation of what options you have. They have world-class customer service, and seriously do bend over backwards to ensure you are 100% happy with your purchase and get exactly what you want.
