24 fret S, why not?

This has probably come up before, but I couldnt find the answer. Is there any mechanical / technical reason why ibanez doesnt offer an S guitar with 24 frets? Would seem like the perfect guitar...

no, there is no mechanical / technical reason why ibanez doesnt offer an S guitar with 24 frets. mick thomson from slipknot has an ibanez custom shop 24 fret s series guitar. its pretty hot.

gun metal grey, emgs, edge fx, ebony fretboard.

a 24fret s is easilt made , but you cant put a 24 fret neck on an s because its a longer scale and youll have intonation issues like a son of a bitch

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I recall, having 22 frets supposedly puts the neck pick-up in a sweeter spot allowing for better tone. At least, I think that's what a lot of people claim, and that's the reasoning behind 22 frets. Hence why strats have 22/21 frets, etc.

I personally think it's stupid, but I think that was one reason. The other reason being that Stratocasters have that many frets, and the S/JS series are modeled after strats.

It is... there's a harmonic spot at that specific point on the string. The pickup isn't quite situated directly under it, so you lose a little bit of it's "sweetness". It's all about the few extra notes vs. slightly better (subjective) tone from a neck pickup. I never use my neck pickup anyways, so it's a moot point for me.

You've got your head down
You've got your eyes closed
You look so pitiful now

Your body encrusted with ash
Breath heavy with toxins
Hair singed and matted
Clothes frayed and burnt

You are left with nothing

^I believe it was urklvt. I'm not a fan of anything over 27", but I still wouldn't mind giving 28 5/8" a try. It's sure a nice looking geetar...

Yup

I don't really care. Many guitarists with awesome tone (John Petrucci, Vai, etc.) have 24 fret guitars. I like having 24 frets because it makes sense having 2 octaves per string.

Regardless, it doesn't bother me that much that the S has 22 frets. I could live without those high 2 frets.
