New carvin DC727 is here!

some pics fresh out of the case.

options are : mahogany body
5 peice koa/maple neck
quilted maple top
quilted maple headstock overlay
sapphire blue stain finish
birdseye maple fretboard
stainless steel jumbo frets
active electronics

i haven't really given it a good test run yet. kind of pointless right now with the stock carvin pickups (not a fan). flawlessly constructed like my other DC727. didn't even order a phase switch but they put one on!

that blank maple board is really nice...the birdseye isn't coming through
real well on this screen, but I bet it looks kick-ass in person

i installed an X2N7 & Air Norton7 in my other carvin and loved the results (that guitar is all mahogany w/ a maple top and ebony f/b). i might go with another Air Norton and maybe try out a D Sonic7 for this one.

as far as the 5 piece neck stripes go... since i was going with a koa neck w/ 2 maple stripes i thought the 3 darker stripes and 2 lighter stripes would look unique! i don't see it too often.

thanks! i hear you on the different shapes. although i really like the DC's body style, the '91 style pointy headstock (which they still offer on their six strings) would rule on these guitars!!!

So let me ask you 3 questions
1. Why no tung oiled neck?
2. what do those pickups sound like (please don't say "like shit" give me
something to go on here)
3. what gauge strings do they ship these out with?

lol, thanks man! let's see... question #1, i LOVE painted necks, i dunno, they just feel "right" to me

#2 the pickups IMO are some of the better stock pickups out there. if i absolutely had no choice but to leave the carvin pickups in there i could deal with them. the X2N7 and AN7 just suit the sound i go for much better. the neck pickups carvin use for their 7's i have a love/hate relationship with... in regular humbucking mode i hate them, overly bright and no clarity (not a good combination

) in split single coil mode they sound incredible, almost like a real single coil! to my ears. tone is subjective, you'll have to find out for yourself. #3 strings are gore elixers 9 - 58 (i think). can't stand them! most of my sevens are set up with 11, 14, 17, 28, 38, 52, 64 (sometimes a 62, depends on the guitar)

yeah, i believe the triple step adds to build time. date on my postcard was 12/22, came early!

K, I knew you were going to smile when you saw that timespan

For the triple step they literally just do it three times, so it adds a bit to the time but not a lot. they spray it, let it dry, and hand sand it on the tops of the figure patterns, so by the time they do it three times the dark spots have a really 3-D feel to them. They have state of the art paint curing booths, so the triple step should only add a week or so.

Edroz, that's a great looking guitar, congrats! The stock pickups sound so different in alder and mahogany they're like 2 different sets of pickups. I would have gone for the tung opiled neck myself, but that's a sharp guitar. I think you're really going to love playing her!
