musci 123 is good. the guitar is fine i guess, and i was considering buying one myself until I read that it is made in china, so I'm gonna have to play one BEFOREHAND. china is getting good, but I'm not gonna reply on them too much for now... maybe later. the trem version is made in korea which is slightly to significantly better, depending on each individual guitar because the quality isn't as consistent.

Hate to plug here but I have an Ibanez AX7221 with a Duncan JB-7 for sale in the for sale forum.

Aside of the plug, for which I do apologize, I'd say you're probably better off spending just a little more for something better. The Schecter Omen 7 sells at $349 on that site, the RG7321 sells for $375, and the one I'm selling sells for $337 on Music123. I would recommend the Schecter as they're great instruments or the RG7321, and second the AX7221 over the Washburn.

I don't know, that $199 Washburn seems to have a very strong following. It seems to be a ton of guitar for the money (based on what it's owners are saying.)
I would buy it, theunforgiven246. If nothing else it will allow you to get into the "7 string game" without dropping a large amount of cash, and at best you could be getting a very nice guitar for damn near zero money.

I don't think you should expect the neck on the $199 Washburn to stay straight for 4 years. So, keep that in mind when you purchase (that you are basically renting a cheap guitar until it is worthless in the near future). If you want a good 7, then get an Ibanez, or even a Schecter. If you just want to get your feet wet, you should still get an Ibanez or a Schecter. As for the "strong following" of the 199 dollar Chinese Washburns, it is likely composed entirely of people with 200 dollars to spend.
Take a bit of advice from someone who has had well over 100 guitars; don't buy a cheap guitar because it's cheap, or you'll end up throwing money away. Buy an inexpensive used guitar because the price is low but initial quality was high. You can get a good guitar for a little money, but a new cheap guitar is likely just crap. A $300 dollar Schecter is 50% more money and likely 200% better, for example. Spend the money, get the best you can possibly beg, borrow, or steal. It will also help your resale down the road if you determine the 7 isn't for you.
good luck!

there's always an interplay between spending money and getting a good product, and it rears its head the most with new buyers. should you spend a little money on some junk, or a lot of money on top of the line?

i'd say, go for the middle ground. if you really want to play a 7string guitar and you get a crappy one, then it probably won't excite you as much as a nicer, more quality instrument. $200 for a new instrument is pretty cheap. and if you do keep to it, you'll end up spending more to upgrade.

my advice: shop for a better quality used instrument. as has been said before, you can get an awesome secondhand RG7 anywhere between $250~400.

I have a radical idea. The door swings both ways,
we could reverse the particle flow through the gate.
We'll cross the streams.

I have to disagree about the Washburn WG587. See my post here:

the only reason i think that it is goin for 200 is that its discontinued and they have a shit load to sell and its at a 78% discount so i dont think its gonna be that shitty since its list is more than the list for both the ibanez's and schecter's list.
