New Guy, New Guitar Day
I've been lurking for quite awhile, but I figured I'd wait for my first post until I had a proper 7 string NGD. So today is that day! This is my second 7 string, I had an RG7620 about 10 years ago that I've regretted selling ever since. I had a trade offer pop up for this so I figured I'd jump on it. Enough of the boring stuff, on to the pics:
![]() Prestige you say? ![]() Not quite, but still pretty cool. Naked RG7421. ![]() Dimarzio Blaze and D-Sonic, with a coil split. ![]() Pretty Interesting figuring. ![]() That's it, hope everybody enjoys the pics. Now that I'm out of the shadows I hope to become a productive member of the community.

I encountered a veneer when sanding a 7620. Why do they put veneers on painted guitars?

It seems weird doesn't it? I'm glad they did though, because this is a 3 piece body and would look ridiculous without the veneer. I think it has something to do with basswood and how it reacts to paint.

On a side note, does anyone know where I could find a good wiring diagram for these pickups (to include the coil tap)? The wiring is completely FUBAR, and I'll need to redo it from scratch.

The veneer is probably there because basswood sometimes drinks finish like mad, so in the days before the advent of fast, efficient wood filler it was just easier to glue something to the top that would stop this. Don't know why they didn't put it on the backs, though.
