NGD Carvin DC 727 Claro Walnut content! (Pic heavyish)
Came home to find a little present......
Obligatory box shot: ![]() Cats are most intrigued by the box.... they can't wait to get in it! ![]() Oh hello there baby! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pointy! ![]() Great cutaway ![]() Alder! ![]() Like srsly, leave my alone ![]() ![]() So the finish came out absolutely perfect.... I was worried when I saw some other Claro walnut top guitars that it would be mediocre but it was really a beautiful finish. The pickups aren't as shitty as I expected them to be (on the contrary they're actually kinda nice), but I'll certainly be replacing them in the future. The guitar itself is of an excellent build quality, ALMOST everything is perfect about it, only two issues I've been having is the strings ringing out in the headstock (which was promptly fixed via foam administration....) and the high e is kinda close to the frets, which if I'm not always in control of the string I may accidently let it slip off the fretboard. Any solution to such a problem? It's not really an extreme case such as those found on lower end Ibanez guitars, but I'd like it to be perfect So there ya have it. I've played her for a couple of hours today and she plays wonderfully Very fast, though as this is my first 7 string it'll take some time getting used to. Great neck feel, perfect for my hands. I was also surprised by the pickups... they for some reason feel more aggressive than the EMG's in my other guitar. I've had an easier time getting pinch harmonics out of this guitar than said EMG equipped guitar, and it didn't sound muddy or flumpy at all. As said though, they aren't the best pickups either, so I'll be looking to replace them in the future. (Though not as soon as I initially planned. ENGL e530 is first in line...) Cheers folks! Any questions please ask, I'd love to answer anything you may throw at me! Thank you! Was really surprised to get it so early.... It was shipped off last Wednesday and living in Canada, I expected at least the end of this week. Great service from Carvin too!

Awesome guitar! Some people call those inlays "sperm inlays". I like them though.
How long was the build? |

LOL haven't heard that one, I like them a lot though. I detest the blocks, and dots are boring. Can't play without inlays and they look cool so... I ordered in the beginning of November (3rdish) so just a tad over two months. (Keeping in mind that this is a somewhat busier time of year for them)

My favorite inlays from Carvin are the pearl Diamond inlays. Not quite as boring as dots, the blocks just cover too much area which is a no-no for flamed maple fretboards (which I think I will use for a DC800), I hate abalone, so it narrows down to pearl diamond inlays or pearl sperm inlays, and since I want the body/top wood to be the flashiest feature on a Carvin, I'd choose pearl diamond inlays or no inlays. I tend to just use the side dots. I still like the sperm inlays, but I think I would only want them if I had a solid finish on a Carvin.

Congrats man!
My Carvin 727 order went in last week so I've still got quite a few weeks to wait for mine & the wait is killing me! I haven't seen many with this newer headstock shape but I really, really dig it actually. More than I thought I would. The claro walnut top came out perfect for you there too.

Oh my.
Yours is prettier than mine. You have to send it back. Or send it here. ![]() (Congrats, dude! Somehow, your cats match your guitar...) "I WANT TO .... Thanks guys
I'll try to upload some videos in the near future, but I'm pretty busy with school atm (and I'm going to be setting it up for A standard soon) I feel pretty lucky to have such an awesome piece of walnut on my guitar...And for the record I have 6 cats at home Again any questions feel free to shoot! (Already answered but it's a matte satin body with tung-oiled neck; there is a definite line where the satin abruptly ends and the oil starts, it can be more easily seen on painted bodies with oiled necks such as: )

Are the fret ends beveled in too far on the high E side?
I had this problem on mine (and have seen many pics of Carvin 7's with the frets done this way) As beautiful as it is I hope it doesn't start to drive you crazy. Play the shit out ot it during the 10 day period, you may decide to send it back , which would be a shame , becuase she's a looker.

No it's not bad. It's noticeable..... funny how I got lucky with my LTD V-401, great fretjob on that. On the Carvin it's a bit beveled but certainly manageable. If anything it forces me to learn to control the strings. (Not to mention I'll be jacking up the strings as I'll be lowering the tuning to A standard so I may throw on 12s instead of originally planned 11s.)
Absolute worst case scenario, I'll get 'er refretted. But I don't think it's that bad. |

Look what I found on craigslist for my baby... Set of 7 string Nailbombs for 250$ Canadian. Picking them up on Wednesday, followed by an order of an ENGL e530! Ceramic bridge and Alnico neck; I was wishing for an Alnico bridge but I'd rather save the 75-80$ I would have to spend getting them new and "compromise" with these. Just one question... how does one differentiate between the neck and bridge pickup...
