Problems with my S

Lately, I noticed when using my volume knob, it crackles like crazy, somethings wrong with it I think...my other guitars never do that. It's almost as if as soon as touch the knob to turn it a little, it's a loud distorted crackle and it doesn't good at all.

I took the back plate off and messed with it but still, something is not grounded I thought..I my have to replace it. Of all my 16 years oif playing guitar, i've never had to do this so, I gotta find another one somewhere, anybody have one?

My S~

I'm assuming you already tried electrical contact cleaner.

Try desoldering it and resoldering it again. Takes two or three minutes and it couldn't hurt anything. If that doesn't work, new pots are fairly cheap. Just be glad the guitar doesn't have a PC board like my Fernandez.

The pot may just be dirty. You can try a can of compressed air to blow it out or I have this stuff by Peavey called "Funk Out". It's a silicon based, electronics cleaner or something.

Mykie, it's a UV case, came with it straight from the factory.

Bostjian, I don't have soldering gun but a friend of mine has one, I will have to bring it to his place for sure, he also has an S 7420 (an FM), his doesn't do it.

All I did was jiggle stuff around, Donnie, I use silicon spray at my work for detailing the interior of the cars, would that work?

This stuff~

It's a silicone spray by Ardex.

Try compressed air first. If that doesn't work, you need a solvent. Like DeoxIT.

Servisol is what we use at work. I had the same problem you describe with my rg7420 (same electronics and pups) and i just swapped it out for a new CTS one. Sounds great, smooth feel, no noise at all. Yes, im sad for noticing that about a control, but i gotta enjoy something in life!

I'm not sure about that stuff. Does it say anything on it about using it with electronics?

I use this:

http://peavey.com/products/browse.cf...unk+Out%3F.cfm

Be advised though, contrary to it's name, it will not keep your bass player from playing Red Hot Chili Peppers songs. ..................
