NGD! Epic deal content! (Pic story and outdoor shots)

Picstory:

Well, what can I say? I've been going through guitars like a gear whore the past few months, and I had every intention of taking a break from the gear whoring since I'm two weeks out from shipping off to basic training. I had just gotten to a point where I was going to keep the ARZ307 I got a few weeks ago, but as I was surfing the used market I found a deal I could not refuse! I promptly drove an hour to Sam Ash in Madison, TN and returned the ARZ. While doing so, I was on the phone with a Guitar Center in Virginia securing what I consider the deal of the century. I made my purchase, and then it was time to wait...

^Who's that? The UPS man?! Sweet buttered bacon!!! I couldn't get out the door fast enough to meet him!

So I bring it in, and the welcom party is there to greet the new addition to my gear family. What could be inside?

Oooooohhh, the tension mounts as my faithful assitant helps me remove the packing material.

What could it be?

"Tell me already!!"

Alright, alright... it's a Carvin DC747!!!

You can see my daughter is excited too, as she is checking to make sure it's in tune.

So after all was said and done, I got to make my dream of owning a Carvin 7-string come true- and for roughly half the price of a new one! You can see why I simply *had* to return the ARZ307 and jump on this deal! Overall she's in great shape. She's pretty dirty- the fretboard is dirty and the frets need some steel wool to get the grime off. Also, she needs a fill setup including a thicker set of strings for A standard, action and neck adjustment, and intonation setting. Even as it is, this thing feels like the best guitar I have ever played- period. I'll get to tink around with her more tonight after I get back home, and then I can finally hear these Carvin pickups I've been hearing about.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I sent an email to Carvin to see if they have information on it. I hope to hear back soon.

Ask enough questions, and you can answer anything.

the finish reminds me of the good old carpenter ESP sig, which was always one of the most beautiful guitars to me.

Nice find. ON the dirty frets try gorgomite instead of steel wool. That stuff is a wonder cloth and no metal dust on your pickups!

Such nice guitars! I had a DC727 as my main gigging guitar for a few years, it was solid.

Looking at that guitar was like hearing the Beatles for the first time. :o If I didn't love my ARZ307 so damn much, I would have done the same thing. Charlie Sheen wishes he could win as much as your guitar does. Congrats!

you bet

I just heard back from Carvin. Apparently the particular specimen was made in 1999, which any of you Carvinites may know was the year the DC727 and 747 were introduced. It feels like I own a small piece of guitar history or something. Anyway, the guitar has a maple neck with ebony fretboard and an alder body. Also, those are definitely string saver saddles.

I hate it when people do that. I won't sell a guitar unless it's in its best condition - cleaned, polished, and set up. It bugs the hell out of me when I'm looking in used gear and it's all dirty and nasty and beat to hell. But then again, it gives me more opportunity to gain experience with set-ups and maintenance as well as satisfy my OCD. DIE, FINGERPRINTS!
