NGD Douglas Scope 727

My Douglas Scope 727 arrived yesterday! It's a badass guitar man. I love this thing. The 27 inch scale is pretty sweet. I find that it tightens up my playing a lot and It sounds heavier. I accidentally popped a string after the nut setting it up, but hey it happens lol. Anyways, here's the pics and I'll have a video either today or tomorrow testing this thing out. The figured top on this guitar is incredible. Sort of reminds me of an evh musicman type top idk.

Yeah. What Mr. Armada said. You CAN use it for maybe a month but the knife edges wear out quickly. LOVE that top though. Congrats dude

Thanks guys. I don't know about the trem tho. My other douglas does just fine and I've had it for a long time. Still flutters and everything

If you use it constantly like I did it wouldn't last more than a couple months. Even the intonation went out because the trem moved forward because of the diminishing knife edges. Not a hard fix though but it's easier just to block it so that doesn't happen and for more tuning stability. They really aren't bad trems when they're working.

Well, I'm not a trem man, so I have nothing to say about blocking it or not. But what I can say is that is a sick maple top. It's quite unique!

Yea man love the guitar! The top is killer bro. As far as the stock pickups go I like 'em for now, but I've thought about for both my douglas 7's going the emg route. Just not sure I wanna do the whole battery thing again. So I might do passive emg's cuz I actually like 'em lol. Not sure tho. For now keeping them stock.

If you decide to go with passive EMGs, I've got a pair of 707Bs that are looking for a good home.

Which wah are you using in that video?

Funny thing. I just went to Rondo Music and saw that the Douglas guitar was ash. Came on to correct myself, and there already were folks on it like a bonnet. That's a sick look, nonetheless.

In otherwords, trems are set up on a balance of springs and your guitar strings. If it's floating which means you can pull up as well as push down on the bar then everytime you do a string bend the rest will go flat and if you pop a string then the rest will go sharp. Blocking a trem makes it so you can only push down on the bar and if you pop a string the rest won't go sharpt. And also, if knife edges are worn then everytime you pull up on the bar when it's floating then the trem would get stuck in a sharp position. I'm going to test my luck with the douglas trem tho because every douglas trem I've ever had is quite satisfactory in performance.

This thread just made me think about one thing; has anyone out there tried to harden (quench? ) the baseplate (or the kinfe edges if separate) of a licensed trem? Like just totally DIY style slowly heating it with one of these (don't know the english name):

And then cooling it down rather quickly by dipping it into water or sth? My dad has to build/invent some tools on his own in his work and he does it sometimes. This makes the metal harder, but also less flexible. One would think it'd help out with the knife edge problem? I almost feel like buying a cheap guitar just for trying it out

The flexibility that metal has keeps it from breaking, take the differences between a metal bar and concrete pillar for instance. If you harden the knife edges too much (if you can harden them at all) then they might shatter opposed to just going dull.

I have not gotten around to doing this on mine but I highly reccomend it!
I have the original one, sr470, and i think i got lucky on mine because my ash top is book matched and on the website it says they are a 3 piece top, which is not very appealing to me so i'm very grateful I guess I got lucky? Definitely like the new tops theyve gone with. String dampening above the nut is CRUCIAL, good job. I just put 707x's in mine, ....in shreds. These guitars play so great it's unbelievable. I will say one thing. Though it'll stay in tune, I can't get my guitar to stay in the tuning I want it to be in, i have it tuned G# D# G# C# F# A# D# and it will only sit a few cents below A440. Annoying when with other guitars but bearable and fixable i guess. The trem depending on your string tensions will vary, pay close attention to how it acts with different gauges and adjust accordingly over time. I don't use trem either and let me tell you when I was using it, it doesnt really stay in tune. It's the little things that get to you about these Made in China gems, but everytime I pick this bitch up, I'm so glad i spent the $123 on Ebay to buy mine.

Yeah, I'm in a band.

Dude! Post pics of yours with the 707's in it! Yea rondo can surprise ya sometimes with the quality of tops. Sometimes you'll get an amazing top that's just simply rediculous for the price! As far as the tuning issue yea I find that I'm a few cents below a440 as well, but for me it's no biggy. Even when you're playin with a band it's not rediculously noticable.

oh god I DIY'd the pups it looks wretched. I hit the top coating in a few sections and am not perfect on the beveling out for the pup size difference. I definitely will put pics up once I get her looking 100% she is still missing the neck pup to be installed.

Yeah, I'm in a band.
