NRGD - woooo a seven once again!

Well one day a friend called me saying that he found a 1527 on craigslist locally for $300 so naturally my reaction was to drive home from 7eleven with my newly acquired Slurpee and find the ad asap. I did just that and was dreaming of the day I could get my sweaty hands on that prestige ibby. Found the ad and saw the pics, still couldn't really tell what was on the headstock, but I figured that price would be a steal for any jap ibby 7.

Anyway, communication was really slow with the seller, but eventually I worked out a time to go buy and pick it up. Walked into the sellers garage, stepped on a crusty dead mouse, and feasted my eyes on this ibby hard shell case. He opened it up and inside was a blue(royal blue?) RG7620. The finish was all fogged over from being left out in the cold garage . It was in decent cosmetic condition too with 2 chipped areas. Rust practically rubbed right off onto me as I figured the guit, but the frets were in incredible condition and all tuners turned super smooth. He even had the original trem bar, manual, and hex key.

Included with the guitar, was supposed to be some 8" combo amp to complete the deal, but the seller left it in another town. So I made away with a nice condition RG7620, hard case and all for $250! I was super happy and the drive home was luscious.

It took me about a busy week to pick up some new strings so I could actually enjoy playing the RG. I got the fretboard rubbed down, frets polished a bit, and guitar restrung and it felt awesome! Frets are in excellent condition seeing how its probably about 13 years old by now. The previous owner did say he got it to start out on as a fist guitar, played for a month or so, and then decided it wasn't for him, pretty much explaining the low mileage.

Only complaint is that the neck, coming from previously owning a RG7321, seemed quite wide at first. I used to own an H307 as well and it was definitely about in the middle of the two, width-wise. Anyways was just curious as to why the 7321 would be thinner compared to a higher up model. Or is this just because the 7321 is a hard tail and has a bridge with closer string spacing? Does this happen to mean that a 7621 would have a thinner neck or am I just making up things?

All in all, I have gotten used to the guitar and it plays great. As far as pickups go, it definitely could use a clarity boost. Gonna put some D-activators in it soon. I love the looks of the darker rosewood on the board and am glad I made the purchase.

If you've managed to read all of this before scrolling down, KUDOS TO YOU!

PICTARS

There she is, patiently waiting on my floor. Wait, what the hell is the combination?

Oh right!

There she is all nice n grubby!

After the shower.

Notice, sadly, one of its main flaws right next to the trem... a nice chip..

So sexy

the other chip....

Those lines!

Lo pro!

A peak at the headstock

Glad I could snatch up this axe and become a seven stringer again.

It seems that the cheaper 7620s sell for, the better condition they're in. Aside from those 2 chips, it's immaculate, including the trem. Head over to a drugstore and color-match it with some nail polish. It's much easier with black, but if you can get it close, it's better than nothing.

Thanks guys! and Ketzer, nice idea, I'll see if i can get something close. Even though my hand usually covers that spot, it'd be nice to conceal it.

Any suggestions on how to control a chip from chipping anymore. Maybe something to seal it over? Here's a pic of it: http://i695.photobucket.com/albums/vv314/Mehnike/DSC_0145-1.jpg?t=1295775352

Nail polish will do just fine again. That looks to be a rash in the clearcoat, though, so I don't know what actually will help.

If it was me? I wouldn't worry about that. If it gets worse, it gets worse, and you can repair it with polish. and if it doesn't, so much the better.

The rash you see is more of a shiver kinda thing from an impact i'm assuming.

But yeah I'm not too worried about it. After all, it has aged nicely so far.

Personally, I think that most attempts to touch up a paint chip look horrible. They look fine from 20 feet away, but they rarely look awesome up close. If I'm looking at a buying a guitar and I find out it has been touched up, it's an automatic deal breaker.

Other than that. Great score. Out of the RG7620's, Royal Blue is probably the least common. It's my favorite RG7620 color.

You got a steal!! I just bought a 7620 on eBay as well and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I thought $377 shipped was a good deal until I saw this! I just wish the finish was in as good condition as yours. Have fun with that guitar

I should be sponsored by Ibanez.

I like the 97 7620 necks the best. They have a different feel to them than the 98's or 99's.
I had a 97 RB a while back that had a BK Miracleman and a Jazz in the neck and it was
by far the best 7620 I've had yet. (Only 7620 that I miss)

You raise a good point. I think I'll stick with it how it is for now and if it some how gets worse, consider doing something then.

That Royal Blue colour is beautiful. I have always thought that Royal Blue is much nicer than the Cosmic Blue that comes on the RG1527s. I still love the Cosmic Blue though...
