Seven String Setup?

So I got my first seven string last week; a Shecter Hellraiser C-7. I couldn't be more pleased with it. The only problem was the lower strings were extremely buzzy. So today I decided to change the strings and/or raise the action. Easy, right?

I slapped the new set of strings on (D'Addario .10 to .59), and quickly realized that the .59B AND the .46E wouldn't even fit into the nut, making them both sound dead. Fix one problem, two more pop up...

I asked a friend about it, and he told me I should just go to a shop and have it set up. Thing is, I'm absolutely positive the shop will rip me off. HARD.

So I guess my question is this: What exactly would I have to do to properly set up my brand new seven? Would It be worth spending over $100 to have someone else do it?

EDIT: This should PROBABLY be in the General Tech section. Oops.

Buzzing strings don't always mean your strings are too low. There's a really good chance your neck needs adjusted. It really needs done if you changed string gauge. You will also need your intonation adjusted. If that's the case I would have someone that knows what they're doing set it up. If you adjust the truss rod too much at a time there is a good chance of messing up the neck. I'm not sure who is charging $100 for a setup but to get one anywhere around here is no more than $35. I would call around for prices.

That's what they charged me to set up my Ibanez. I will definitely ask around for other technicians this time around though.

Be specific when you call. Ask for the price to have the neck adjusted, intonation, string height, and tell them that you have new strings on there so there isn't any need to put new ones on. Start with smaller shops first. They will usually give you a better deal. If that doesn't work call Guitar Center or something like that. Maybe find people on here that live close to you and see who they recomend.
