Restringing 6-string acoustic to a 7-string

I nned a 7-string acoustic for a project, but I can afford one, can I in some way but a low b string on a 6string, and here is the problem, i have a classical guitar can i use 5 string from a classical guitar and one low b string from a steelstring set ?

You couldn't use a steel string because it will put too much tension on the neck as classicals generally don't have truss rods.

I'm pretty sure nylon strings don't have ball ends... so unless you have a custom bridge or something I'd say you're SOL.

Maybe tie a knot in one through a ball end of an old string?

not enough tension, it wouldn't drive the top very well. classicals are lightly braced, whereas steel strings are much heavier braced, to balance out the added tension, and that in turn drives the top.

jufob is just really nicejufob is just really nice
A luthier in my area says it is no big deal to modify an inexpensive 12 string guitar into a 7 string which I was going to do myself eventually but right now I am content using a acoustic effect pedal on my electric
7's.

jufob

yeah you can also modify som 6 strings to a 7string beacuse some of the classical guitars are wide as fuck, but that is also ovcer my price range right now, you also have the gianni 7-string classical guitar for 289 dollars.

"now I am content using a acoustic effect pedal on my electric

how does that sound ? do you have a clip of it that you can share ?

Why not just tune the acoustic down to B?
