The Ibanez RG7621BK make-over finished!(pics)

Ok... so I decided that my first project will be staining the 7621BK. The colors will be Minwax's Green Bayou and for the back of the neck, Onyx(black). All with a matte clear over the top. Ok, here we go...

The patient. My Ibanez RG7621BK:

All torn apart and ready to have the paint removed(taped up the nut so the edge of the sander didn't gouge it):

And the neck is all sanded:

And the top of the body sanded with a test spot for the Green Bayou color(the wood is ok. Not the best looking, but it'll serve it's purpose for my first experiment. Maybe someday I'll pick up a nice alder body for it):

The back of the neck stained black:

Update:
The entire guitar is stained now. There's a couple of spots on the body I need to touch up and a couple of spots where it looks like they filled some cracks with superglue(those of you that have tried to sand out superglue on wood know that it doesn't like to come out), but overall, not to bad.

Headstock decal applied:

And with the satin clear(still rough and oh so different looking! ) The clear kind of "ambered" it a bit and brought out some of the wood color. Kind of cool, I guess. Next time I'll deepen the stain by adding an extra coat or 2:

Almost done. Smoothing out the clear and scuffing it to make it a bit more "matte".

And it's done! All I have to do now is re-intonate and pick up a different kill switch tomorrow.

Sweet, can't wait to see the end result.

I'm curious as to how the onyx stain will look on the maple. I planned to have my maple-bodied 8 ebony stained.

Updated with a pic of the neck stained black. I put on a couple of coats so you can't really see any wood grain(in the pic, with the flash, you can't see any. ).

That first picture is very decieving. It's beat to hell and back. And while I love beat up guitars, I dislike black ones.

That's looking great bro. What'd you use to sand the body down? I went at an old RG250 or something like that of mine with a handheld power sander, and gave up halfway through.

You should use some of that black fretboard dye on it - would really contrast the body nicely.
