TDW: Did you ever "do" your 2027?
Like, rewired it for EMG's? I was talking to a buddy yesterday, and was thinking about actually going through with it, as, well, it's not like I am going to sell it, and do want an EMG'd guitar, AND would ratgher do it to that one than a 2027.
...., if i had the cash i'd be getting the wes borland cst! |

![]() Just haven't got that sorta' cash at the moment though unfortunately. Which guitar are you thinking of fitting EMG's to then 7DT? I'd love to have a new SOL type mahogany body made for my 2027 so i don't wreck it and have that routed for EMG's,maybe even have a maple top put on it to give it a slightly brighter edge. If i did that it would be nice to finish the top in a trans-black stain or something. I'm going to swap the mini-toggle switch for a three-way on the 2027 (the KJG mod) to give it a bit more options too. |

Ouch!!!!!!!!!!!
Gotta' take care of the old digits! Yeah, i didn't think about that. I've heard that the pickup-selector on the 2027/CST is near impossible to replace because it has extra connections or something, but i think it's only a problem if you wanna' use passives with a replacement three-way selector. I think if you were doing away with the passives for EMG's it wouldn't really be a problem. On the other hand, perhaps that's why the guy with the EMG'd CST had ....ed around with the switches and all that. There's a wiring diagram that Kevan did for DE equipped guitars here; http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/rewire.htm I would think that if you kept the existing 5-way selector and only used positions 1,3 + 5 with 2 + 4 as off/kill-switch positions it would be very do-able. It's only the one connection tab on the 5-way that's run to the piezo. I would be inclined to drop Kev a PM as he's sure to be able to give you a definite (and more reliable) answer. |

it's actually the main volume pot that is the issue, as the piezo board is attached to it (i think, i may be rusty, but the board is attached to one of them)
That and the battery and all that rubbish, as there's only space for one I think... and yeah, the fingers still f**$&&$&$&£(£)"&"^$&%$"£("£ing hurt. Bad man, had to pull them out of the window as it was jammed (due to fingers being there). Think old style large wooden slide down widow. |

Yeah, looking at the wiring-diagram the volume pot does appear to have a wire running to the board and another to one of the tabs on the piezo toggle.
It's a scary looking diagram! Makes me a bit scared to think about when i (eventually) get round to changing my pickups. The KJG mod thing doesn't look difficult though. Didn't you do that to yours? How does the BC sound in your 2027. I was gonna' go for the regular Blaze, and then i considered a BKP Warpig7. Every time someone gets a new pickup here i get a little more confused about what to go for.

I never went the EMG route, James, sorry. Although if I can land another 2027 or 2, I almost certainly will. (I'd like one with my current setup, and 2 backups - 1 with PAF7s, and one with EMGs).
I was too scared to route it and maybe not like it, on only one guitar, y'know? Wish I coulda been of more help. http://www.wolf.org |

Ya know?... I just realized something. I've been talking with Kev a lot over AIM lately. And he and I had talked about my 2127X, and he asked if I had the "KJG" mod done to it, and I told him I wasn't interested in it...
... but I didn't realize that the "KJG" mod was HIS mod!! LOL |

I use the KJG mod alot, so it's a great idea for me. The mixed piezo/magnetic sounds are a lot of fun. But hey, to each their own.
Dude, I use to have that damn He-Man guy you got there for your avatar, I think. Who the hell was that?

James: I hope you're fingers are better now.
If you want to try a 7 with EMG's before you get too far into chopping up your 2027, I can bring my RG7621 round Sunday. Don't know how much longer I'm gonna have it for though, as one of the guys here is coming to get it later this month. PM me to sort something out. |

I would actually sell the 2027 if i knew i could get another double edge equipped axe. A CST sounds interesting due to the maple cap possibly getting some more high end in it (as is the possibility of getting the 2027's body modified with a flame or quilted top :s) It's just that i've tried 3 different bridge pickups and am still not happy, i mean, i can pick up the pwh and it'll just have that sound and life, but the 2027 i feel i just have for the piezo at the moment and no other reason :/ And even then.... bugger! |

What I ALMOST did, though, and what I'm sure I would have had I not been in the market for a new amp and figured I could probably use the cash, was have a replacement body made up. Sure, the VV finish on bare mahogany was gorgeous, but I've always thought alder would be about perfect for a seven, and for the maybe $300 or so it'd take to have a stained, tung oiled body done, I figured it was worth a shot, seeing as if it didn't work out I could just re-install everything in the original body and sell it. Do you know any luthiers in the area who'd be capable of doing a copy of the body? "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." http://www.metalguitarist.org |

Hordak
Yeah, the only reason I put that up, is cuz I'm FINALLY getting around to organizing all my childhood toys to go sell them on ebay or whatnot (there's a local store). And so I've been going thru all my old He-Man figures, and I remembered how much of a badass character he was.

would be cool, but expensive :/ and the 2027 got chipped by a vengefull ex, so it's not mint, hence not being worried about emg'ing it too much as the body isn't pristine (neck is though )it's just that lack of that sound that i can get out of the pwh... dilemma dilemma dilemma... Did the CST suffer from the same as i was thinking of getting a maple top on it? |

Just a thought, but the difference in sound seems to be because the PWH has pickguard mounted pickups in a basswood body compared to the 2027's mahogany body. I know it's obvious, but you and Drew both seem to prefer that sound. I don't think you'll get the sound you're after from the 2027 unless you get a basswood body with pickguard mounted electrics.
Maybe it's time to ask yourself how much you actually need the piezo's. Ask yourself honestly, and if you don't need them why not sell it and buy another PWH? If you do need them, maybe look into getting a basswood body with pickguard mounted electrics or, this may be considered heresy by some, put the piezo setup in your PWH. If you decide to sell it, let me know. If you gut the PWH I'm definitly interested in the Edge 7 and probably the remains of the 2027 too. |
