Went to Guitar Center and played a seriously messed up rg7321.

There was a kid there who was looking for a seven string, they showed him the 7321 and 7421. I talked to him a bit and reassured him that sevens were awesome.

Then I picked up the 7321 and went "Wtf mate?"

I know guitars vary...but something was wrong with this one. The neck wood looked like it had been cut from a dying tree, it was black in some spots (like the color of rotting wood) and felt very dry.

Beyond dry actually, it felt as if someone had sanded all the finnish off of it. The tuners were alot smaller too. Have these things gone down in quality or somthing or is it just the luck of the draw.

Ps. The rg7421 felt incredibly awesome.

Ps ps. We (my friends and I) met a guy who was in Dragon Heart back when he lived in the UK and he showed us a bunch of cool keyboard stuff.

Which Guitar Center? Was it a black guitar sitting in the loud lounge at Falls Church?

Yeah, I think with guitars being moved to the Indonesian factory, there is more of a chance of the guitar being a miss.

It was Guitar Center of Fairfax off Lee Highway. And it was hanging up on the wall.

Mine had "dirt" all over the neck when I got it. I feared it might have been rotten wood, too, but then I realized it was smudged over the binding in places too, so I figured it would wash off, but it appears to be some sort of permanent dye. The neck is definately unfinished and raw, but I like the feel of it. I'm eventually going to get around to painting over the binding anyway.

Just "WILD SPECULATION," but I think Bush is going to invade Iran, oops I mean, I think it's some sort of fretboard dye that gooped on the rest of the guitar.

Mine is so dark, it looks like too dark to be real, but it might just be really dark wood.

Yeah I know the term "rosewood" applys to a very wide variety of wood from a certain tropical tree family.

So it could have been a different kind of rosewood.

its probably been dyed, not uncommon, my RR5's fretboard was fairly dark for rosewood, until i refretted it and sanded all the dye off

Mine must be dyed too then, because from a distance you would swear that it was ebony.
