My Carvin 7 string, Tremol-No, Bass strings....

I just dropped off my Carvin DC727C at my local shop for a set up for a few reasons. The action was too low and I was getting fret buzz in a few places...probably because the neck was REALLY straight. So after I installed the Tremol-No I had to adjust the action because it was really low, so now my bridge was really high off the guitar and the action was still too low. Also, when the Tremol-No was locked and I played moderately hard or I hit certain notes I was getting this wierd rattling/vibrating from my Bridge. When it rattled and I put my hand on the bridge it stopped. It actually sounded a lot like a yetti call to be honest Anyone know how to stop this? I was thinking that using the set screws might stop it but I really dont want to because then I would always need a wrench around to change modes. Another reason I dropped it off was because 2 of the pots were loose.
The hightest guage single string that my shop had was a 59 guage, and thats what I've been using for the low B but its a bit too floppy for me, especially when I drop down to A with the fine tuner. So I asked if they had a 60 guage bass string, and they did...but for the one 60 gauge bass string........it was FREAKING $6. I think thats fuckin rediculous, because for a single 59 guage guitar string its like $1.50, MAYBE, and for a single 60 guage bass string its 6. I could by a whole pack of Slinkies and maybe another string for that much. Well anyway, I had them put that on as the low B for now, just so I could try it until I find another place that has a 60 guage guitar string. The only reason I could think of for the bass string to be THAT much more expensive is because its a little bit longer, but still...thats crazy. Anyways, has anyone else had this problem with the Tremol-No? Thanks a lot guys, Marc.

I can't help you with your trem problem, but they're trying to jack you with that bass string. I bought a 85 bass string today and it cost it 3 bucks flat.

Yeah double bass players have it the worst though. It costs $105 bucks to replace 4 strings.

Akrin is a jewel in the rough
Bass strings are typically double-wound (the core is wound with the wrap wire, then another winding of wrap wire on that) as opposed to guitar strings being single-wound.

That, plus the length, make them more expensive.

"I was always interested in the 'little black dots.' You know, the idea that you can take a piece of manuscript paper and write on it and have a whole orchestra at your beck and call - That's creativity."

I have that problem myself. My single 85 guage bass string costs more than the the other six strings on my guitar.

I'm thinking I'll look into getting bulk strings from now on.

Anybody know how to keep strings fresh?

I heard you can put them in boiling water for a little bit. I've never tried this, but it can't hurt to try.

Well yea, I told them exactly what I needed done and I saw him writing stuff down so I'm ASSUMING everything will come back as I wanted it because I've been going to them for about 6 years and theyre a small store, not a chain or anything.

That...BLOWS...glad I dont play double bass. Or regular bass for that matter.

I'm probably gonna buy the packs of 3 single Ernie Ball strings from Musiciansfriend if I dont find anything else...

Well, what I do is oil my fretboard without removing the strings. This takes a lot of grime off the strings and after you're done, they sound like new.

Just make sure to stick the rag under the strings so you get all of the fretboard
