I see a green stripe but did now discover the magically hidden text behind it. Didnt know there was going to be a puzzle involved.

By the way, that second clip is by Danny Danzi (aka Majichands), a professional recording artist who is reasonably wellknown worldwide.

If you list your gear in your signature, you're a prick.

At this point I'd like to disclose that the friend I had the discussion with, was in fact Danny Danzi (aka Majichands) himself.
Apparently he considered his own tone to be more of a 'tube tone' than the other guy. But as it turns out, the other guy was using a proper conventional tube setup. For a moment there I thought I had lost my mind, but reading most of your responses, it seems that Danny just had a rather strange idea of what 'tube tone' is, and most of you picked the conventional tube setup over his tone, and like me, some of you associated his tone with Line6/modeling/transistor/cab sim/etc... which apparently it was. The funny part was that Danny mostly emphasized on the pinch harmonics he gets from his sound, which was also mentioned by some of you to sound 'fake' rather than tube. When I think of pinch harmonics with a real tube sound, I tend to think of Van Halen's sound, especially in a song like Jump. The harmonics are there, but unlike Danny's piercing, screeching harmonics, Van Halen's sound smooth and mellow. Apparently most of us think about tube sounds the same way. The first clip does have a bit of a brown sound/Van Halen/Marshall flavour to it, I thought... Like someone said, it sounds 'traditional'. |
