strychnine is a jewel in the rough
How well does this sound?

Hey guys whats up, strychnine here. I am not to familiar with my toneport ux2. I've done a few recordings here and there on it but I never really tweaked it to see if I can get the best result. Here I have a new track I recorded just this morning and I thought who better to ask then you guys. I think the 2nd riff after the sound clip is muddy but I cant figure out how to lighten it up. any other comments about it would be helpful as well.
Thanks for taking the time to listen,

strychnine

Do you have a bass in the backround yet? It needs a bit of low end to smooth the harshness.

Have you put one track left and one to the right? If not, you really should do that. It's a very easy way to tighten your sound.

And I have noticed that a good EQ-unit is a must when trying to find "the tone"

I almost drove myself insane trying to find my tone. And I am not done yet...

Yeah, the EQ on amps are often very limited, so an EQ pedal/unit would help a lot in perfecting your tone. That way you can take it to whatever direction you want.

I really suggest the MXR M-108 EQ pedal. A great piece of gear and a very, or the most important piece of my rig.

And thanx for the feedback. That was exactly what I was going for, a good crunch with a clear and tight tone. But there's still room for improvement...

But hey, let's keep the metal flowing

too much gain, needs more low end, the excess gain makes it sound very synthetic and cold... and instead of panning hard left and hard right, try about 60 l/r... and try layering different tones on top of each other, to kind of complete the tonal spectrum... when layering tones you would want to use even less gain than normal, otherwise it turns into a huge gainy mess.

edit: and this was in response to the first post.

you're tone is quite a bit better, although a touch more top end would have really sweetened it up... the JCM2000 is one of the few tube amps i really enjoy, you got a great sound going here... the top end thing might also have to do with the speaker sim thing you used, but i don't know...

I understand completely elysian. my issue is that my monitors are my computer speakers and they are fucked. They actually crack and pop randomly just being on so I cant get an honest read. thanks for telling me exactly what I wanted to hear. Next recording I do, i'll pm it to you so I can get your opinion on it. thanks for the help. any other help is still appreciated.

same as elysian.

The gain overdrives the tone.

Also the riff towards the end, it bends to a really off note. If that's what your goin for... then I guess it's cool.

I think you could benefit from using a lot less gain.

-but keep us updated please! I plan on getting a Toneport for recording soon, and I know I've heard better than this.
