I need a mic to record my guitar.

This summer I'll have money to build a new computer for recording. Anyway, I'm looking for an instrument mic for around $100, preferably not more, but if it's absolutely necessary, I'll go over.

The only decent one that I've used is a Sure SM57, and I know I can probably do better than that for $100. I'll probably be getting a nice TC electronics preamp too...

I always recommend the same one in every thread, and I always will. Audix i5, an SM57 done by people who've listened to music

Thanks, I've also heard good things about the Sennheiser e609, any opinions?

Tons of proximity effect. It can be way too bassy, and has a odd voicing. I only ever use mine for amps that need the extra bass, or for toms.

Audix i5 is pretty amazing, though. It's pretty damn accurate and doesn't have that slight hi-mid boost that the 57 does.

Your ass here!

I think I'll go with the Audix i5 then. Might I add that this forum seriously kicks ass (even after a year I'm still saying this)! You guys are so helpful and just a great friendly resource.
