Is it possible in any way to import projects from Cubase? I have all my favourite

Closest you'll get is OMF, its worth a try, don't know if Reaper supports it mind you

It's got some issues with certain hardware (multithreading doesn't play well with UAD cards, for example) but the bug fix cycle is insane, and I've found it to be very solid after just under a year of using it.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

Sorry, using multiple CPUs, not multithreading. It's one of the setup options, and was one of the big original issues with Reaper.

Ah right, well i wouldn't have to worry about that! haha.

So, tell me, how does it fair up against logic? I know it's probably faster, takes up less memory etc, but how is it for professionalism, so to speak? is it just a cheap bit of home recording multitrack malarky, or is it able to do some nice polished productions?

It's a full-blown DAW, with support to do just about anything your abilities will allow you to do. I haven't used logic, so I can't compare workflows, but certainly the audio output will be just as good as you can make it. The included set of plug-ins range from adequate to excellent. It's certainly not intended to be some sort of half-assed home recording product.

Go check around the forums, and ask questions. Hell, download it and play with it - the evaluation copy never expires, and is not crippled in any way (it just nags). It's truly "try before you buy".

awesome, thanks man

Wait, if it never expires, and isn't crippled... that surely just makes it a free program, doesn't it? What's the incentive to actually pay?

OK downloaded/installed. Lookin goooood! Just playing around with it really, haven't had a chance to record anything atm, but one thing i'm concerned about is i can't see an onboard EQ or reverb or anything like that. Does it exist and i just cant see it?

IconW is a jewel in the rough
One program you should try would be FL Studio (version 8 is the newest I think). And yeah I'm not kidding. Sure some of you guys are thinking like "FL Studio? We're aint making any dance music!" But It's kinda userfriendly and extremely flexible. All mixes (and "mastering") I make I use FL Studio 7. There are all audio recording stuff and eq (+miljon more) effects that you will need. The price isn't high (when you compare to softs like Cubase...Which I nearly hate) and it's easy to learn and use.
I've used Sonar and turned back to FL Studio. I think the Reaper could be closest relative to FL Studio but I'm not sure because I haven't used Reaper (yet!) So this could be one possible alternative.

i have FL studio, have had it for years, it's awesome. Can't record in it though. I've noticed Reaper can use it's VST utilities though, which is nice
