It's way cool man, but I've been listening to some (maybe all) of your recordings andfor some reason I always feel like you lead guitar is kinda off tone (låter surt). Maybe put some reverb to smoothen things out? I feel that would make a world of difference

Thanx alot guys
Yeah, ive never really done anything like this before, but it was really fun, and i liked the result myself!

About the lead...i know...well...or at least on this one. It was something i came up with really quick just to have an intro/outtro. I dont know why it sounds like that...but ill try to work on that. It might be tricking the ears as well, and that its an eq issue (once again) ....i dont know.

But thanx anyways

dude... am... could you.... make step by step tutorial of how to get the sound of your drums on this track?
with all plugins that you have used and all their settings
i just fail to get anything good on my own so copying would be the first step to understand the trick of how to get the badass sounding drums

Sorry dude, but i have worked with my sound since november2007 and still working with it, and i really dont wanna reveal my eq and comp. settings.
But i would def. reccommend that you take a look on this forum on the topics that is about EQing issues etc. There is alot of great advices around here
It`s really just a matter of trusting your ears! And mixing that with listening to songs you really like the sound of is a verry great way to go! Thats what i did...and still do!

Thanx for more kind words guys I REALLY wanna work more on the song right now, but i cant because of school ! shit..hehe

i'll 2nd that the lead tone sounds a bit off. I think it's more that the tone overall lacks that certain organic quality, and so it sounds a bit on the harsh side. While that kinda tone may work real well during the crazy riffage, i think it def needs a change for that lead. it has this kinda unnatural buzz saw sound going on in the sustain.
Overall, its not my style of metal so it's hard for me to make a fair assessment. I do hear the bulb thing going on, but i don't know where he got his style and i don't want you to think i'm accusing you of copping his. Either way it sounds pretty tight and cool man. Keep up the good work!

i just wanted to comment though, on your response to the drum question. While i think it's best for Alex (aka Ruins) to do some research and experiment to find his own sounds in terms of tweaking drums, I really don't see any reason why you shouldn't share your techniques. I think any good artist would always share his techniques in others
a) out of the kindness of his heart and wanting to always encourage other artists who pursue the same goals
b) because any artist who is confident in his work knows that quality and character come from the person and not the technical aspects.
If you think you're saving yourself from extra competition by not sharing your settings, i assure you that there are thousands upon thousands of people out there doing similar work, surely some with better results and some with worse. If you're not confident in your own creative abilities and unique personal character, I can't imagine you'd want to be getting into music - so why not rely on that rather than worry about somebody using the same numbers as you?

Thanx alot for kind feedback once again guys

Yeah, about the lead, thats what i think as well...its an EQ issue.

Anyways, about not giving my mix settings away is simply because ive been working like every damn day since november working hard to get my sound to sound how it does now. And i really dont find it either fair or reasonable just giving it away! And i think most people aggree with me on that one. Its not because i wanna be an asshole or dont want anyone to steal my thunder or whatever. Its just a matter of enjoying some of the hard work from the past for a little while.

I dont really see the big deal right there with rather just sit down and do the same thing i did instead of bitch about me not giving you the easy way out and copy my personal settings with about 7months of hard work behind it.
Its not all about the sound either, its about learning how to work with DAW ,EQ and comp. If i`d give away my settings the people who took those wouldnt learn shit, they would bassically just copy it into their daw and thats it. You dont learn anything from that!
It all boils down to your ears anyway!

But ofcourse...i can give some pointers.

Stay away from anything above 12khz, and under 40hz.

kick - boost between 40- 60 + 5-11khz
snare - - boost around 5-8khz because its kinda middy

on kick i use no comp.
on snare i use some comp. (Rcomp from Waves). I dont overdo the compressor, and i bassically change it for every song i do...so thats you have to find out. But i would reccommend attack around 4ms, and release around 50ms

See....this is bassically the same advices that flows over on this forum.
Just like i told ya before

Nice stuff! Heavily inspired by bulb's "light"?
It was a bit too much kick imo though.

Doesn't your snare pop out like crazy at that kind of attack? I usually have my attack at 0.6ms and it still starts that red light.

How do you mean pop out?
I feel that when i set the attack around that point it gets more wellplaced in the mix...it gets abit "flatter" because the punch of the snare comes in alittle later than straight ahead when its beeing hit.

But...ofcourse...this is a matter of taste and liking.
I like when its more fit down there but still verry punchy.
And also when setting the release on the amount i mentioned it gets more of that "ringing"-tone that makes it sound more organic and like it has more room in it.
Much of that goes away when adding guitars and stuff, so...i do have a fair amount of room and stuff in it.

BUT ..again...this might not work for others because of EQ settings. EQs has so much to do with it !

I tried to set the attack at around 1, but i didnt like it.

Well I meant that the snare gives great volyme peaks :O.
And if you adjust the snare so that it doesnt make peaks like mt. everest, compared to the rest of the instruments, only the punch will be present not the tone...

That problem might be a EQ issue though, I tried your settings with a different guitartone with less mids and the nice snaretone was more present The trick here is just to get the perfect guitartone...
