![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hmmm? my JSX handled this pretty well. netmusicians.org - the guitar gear mp3 database I'm thinking of maybe blending them together?? man this amp is so much easier to record than the recto ![]() Can I be the devil on your shoulder? ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Part of it is probably the sound of the guitar, too, Nick - the clip you posted above sounds verty "rock-y" whereas yours is more metal, which you'd expect from a 25" scale mahogany 6 string with PRS pickups vs. a 25.5" maple and mahogany 7 with Bareknuckles. It's more Mark Tremonti to your Nevermore... That said, I really think part of what you're looking for is the way the midrange responds differently in modern mode. give it a try, with maybe a slightl darker mic position. Also, this may not work for you, but I found I get tones I'm a little happier with if I DON'T close mic right up against the grill, but mic towards the edge of the proximity effect zone, maybe 1 1/2"-2" back. Worth a try, at least... "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I've got a lot of stuff to experiment with. last night I had the output up at noon and the channel volume at 9:00.(It was fucking loud ) I cut it back to -16dbs and did my take.when I was done I noticed that even by just raising the channel volume from 9:00 to 10:00, the freaking tone stack changed. I'm going to need to spend some hours trying different settings. man you guys weren't kidding, these Mesa's are a tweaking nightmare. ![]() but I must say when you can crank them they do sound pretty damn good ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by kmanick; 05-20-2008 at 03:34 PM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Ok big difference, I pulled the KT-77's and dropped in a set of 6L6's and the "boxy" dry midrange tone that I was hearing that was driving me nuts is gone. The KT-77's/EL-34's make playing stuff like Vinnie Moore and Satch etc, more reasonable, they were "vintage-ing" the tone in a really cool way, adding a different dimension to the amps sound, but they were making getting the "real recto" tone that I've been trying to nail, freaking impossible. Next set of clips should be much ,much better. ![]() I could probably smooth out the JSX a bit as well with a set of 6L6's but I like the JSX as is for the "other stuff". ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | thats excatly what happened when i pulled my kt66's for the 6l6's, the sound i'm used to dialed in so much easier, but i didnt even realize they were 66's, i just assumed they came with 6l6's |
