![]() | Suggestion to make a solo sound good in the mix? I can get a pretty descent overall sound but for the most i think the sound of my solos generally sound a little too dry and ''demo-ish'' Which effects would you suggest I try using around to have a kick ass solo sound in my mix? thanks |

Also, how are you EQ'ing your leads in the mix? "...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon." |

![]() ![]() ![]() | If you can play really tight, double tracking can work wonders too. Depends on the solo though. Otherwise, reverb, delay, mabye some compression... experiment! |

![]() | actually i use exactly the same guitar distortion than my rythmn guitar, i tried a little delay but still nothing impressive in the past, maybe i could use a reverb in extra but what about that EQ thing, what would you suggest in terms of Solo versus rythmn sound thanks to you all |

I typically run a high-pass a little higher on my leads than my rhythms - depending on the sound, anywhere from 120hz to 200hz with a Q around 1.0 or so. Also, I've taken towards rolling off a lttle of the high end on the rhythm tracks, maybe a low-pass at around 8khz or so, and while I don't feel I've got a good enough grasp on the exact frequencies yet to recommend anything, a slight upper mid boost in the 1.5-3khz range, maybe a decibel or two, Q between 1 ans 2 or so - can help the lead poke through a little bit. That said, even varying up your lead and your rhythm tone will make a world of difference. Try cutting the gain on your rhythm tone, double-tracking, and panning hard left and right, and then adding more midrange than you normally use on your lead sound.

![]() | Drew: with high pass do you mean give the lead more or less high frequency? thanks for the input i'll try working with those frequencies you can hear that ''dry'' solo sound of mine on my myspace MySpace.com - RedSkull - CA - Death Metal / Thrash / Other - www.myspace.com/redskullll ''Here we go'' after 1 minute |

![]() ![]() ![]() | The clip sounds pretty good right now. For leads I switch off my screamer and switch on my guitar's preamp that offers a nice kick in gain and bottom end plus some volume and body, then I add some verb. Perhaps if you got another boost pedal that might help? |

![]() High mids (around 1.5-2.20khz) will make you hear it more. I would suggest finding something in there that isn't being used by any other instruments, and pushing it (I boost my bass at 2.2, so I would use 1.8, ect).
