Define: Tight/Loose Low End

I think I get the general gist of amps that are "looser" or "tighter" than one another, but as far as my limited knowledge goes - logically, it doesn't make sense.

I mean, no matter what your EQ is, all of the notes you play still ring out for the same amount of time that you let them. So in my mind, if your playing is tight, your amp is tight. I think I might be thinking of the wrong thing when I use this term.

Someone enlighten me? But please, don't just post sound clips and say "this one is tight, this one isn't".

i think 'tight' implies that the bass frequencies behave themselves, they're not flubby or muddy

Its the emphasis of the EQ, yes you may be able to mute well, but when you are still playing, a note coming out where the low end dominates over everything is deemed loose. A note which, while sounding full, does not dominate, is tight.

imo, the tighter the amp, the faster you can play it, but retain clarity while playing lower end notes, while loose means that it gets a bit muddy and the notes dont retain their clarity while playing low end notes fastly, they sort of get mushy and blend a bit and arnt so defined
I would consider a marshal jcm 2000 or a engl invader to be tight, while mesas seem to have a bit of a looser feel

from what i said it seems tighter is better, but the looseness is something thats good for atmosphere, like tool or something, something that the "tight" amps dont pull off as well

Looser think hard rock bass drums, they're very loose but they can get away with it since hard rock bands use little double kick, example Bush, Godsmack, Drowning Pool, etc...

Tight , think typical precise metal double kick. The low end has to be super tight to not get muddy with all that speed!

Also Slayer's old kick drum sound is way looser and it sounds so muddy on some sounds when the fast double stuff comes in.

When the amp feels like it is coming off of a three day hang over=loose

When the amp is mind linking with you ala hand banana=tight

Loose is like walking on grass, tight is like walking on concrete/asphault.

The best anal ages I can think of right now
