Honestly out of all of them (GR, Amplitude, Revalver, L6) I found Line6 to sound the best, IMO, with GR right behind it. I've used the demos of all, and I don't care for Amplitude, and Revalver I am just shocked people love it so much, because I thought it was extremely underwhelming. The JSX model sounds NOTHING like a JSX, and the rest of the models are so so. But of course YMMV.

I'm 100% in agreement, that Gearbox is a LOT easier to dial in a great sounding tone. If you're layering your work, you could probably survive with just Gearbox and still have an amazing sound. Still a GR3 groupie, though. Amplitube, to date, hasn't impressed me once.

GR sounds great too, and is uber flexible. It's just....different. Both GB and GR have great tones, and I think it'd make sense to have both.

I dunno, samples sound pretty fizzy, but there might be some alright 'building-block' tones there. I've never been too happy with PC modeling tone without at least a tube preamp run clean between the guitar and the computer.

I forced forced to use Amplitube LE a long time ago when my amp blew out. :shudders: It sounded better than going direct with my grunge pedal, but seriously it still sounded like ass, I mean it was just pure fizz! I choose that tone over direct with the pedal because of the increased clarity, but that was it really. I have examples on my website but I don't even want to dig them up. The POD xt was a life saver!
