Whenever I do an install I keep all the foam from the box, and stick it in the spring cavity underneath the springs. It just needs to rest against it to mute them (and you can check by doing a quick strum and muting the springs - you immediately notice the difference if it works). Only thing I'd say is don't over pack it, you down want the foam gumming up in the springs. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I always just used a small strip of electrical tape, and wrapped it around the middle of each spring.. Looks clean, and works like a charm. It doesn't hinder spring movement, won't get caught in the springs as they stretch (The adhesive is quite soft) so they pretty much have nil chance of fucking anything up. And everyone and their mother has electrical tape. It's easier than putting shrink tubing on the springs, and works as well as anything. Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance only hides the truth. And the longer that truth has to hide, the more it stings when it makes itself known. http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/gen...ml#post1166807 Buy my sunglasses! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 1) EMG packaging foam. Works best 2) Egg crate style foam can also work (EMG foam is wayyyyyy better) If you MUST be absolutely quiet: 3) Surgical tubing (can be a bitch to get over the spring; in a pinch, I used alcohol based hand sanitizer to lube the tubing in order to slide over the spring) Or in my case, both ![]() ![]() Metal... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | i usually use some kind of foam for long term use. i actually just used plain old electrical tape for the trem springs and behind the nut for the last recording i did. it was all i had laying around at the time and worked like a charm . |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Does that not fuck up the spring movement a wee bit? I've been wanting to do this for a while but thought it might stop the spring from stretching, and get all the adhesive shit smeared all over it! |

Not at all, man. The point of it being electrical tape is that it's very low tack, and even if you do get a bit excited and overtighten it, this tape is quite elastic and isn't strong enough to affect the spring's movement. it's not wrapped around super tight. The first thing I did when I read about this and tried it was check how stable it was, and I've noticed no problems. I used to hate that ring you get on muted notes, and now I love playing chugga chugga stuff ![]() | |
