Audio interface or digital mixer/interface

I have been recording line direct for about 2+ years now and I believe it is time to get some recordings done with actual mic's. I want to buy Something *(Audio interface or mixer/interface combo) but I am not sure what. I need something that will have at least 2 XLR imputs because I will be buying a rocktron prophecy
and will need those for direct recording when im up at school. I know M-audio has a mixer/interface combo thing that plugs into the PC via Fire-wire an that looks tempting to buy, Also Carvin has a mixer https://www.carvinguitars.com/produc...hp?product=S16
that does the same thing. I will only be recording just my 4X12 cabinet with celestion 30's. I would just be using one mic but possibly need another for doing 2 mic's on the cab later. Im aiming towards the 500$ range and am looking for some nice (studio quality) sounding results *Yes i know theirs more to it than just the interface, mic selection and room atmosphere have a big role*.. Also the MOTU Ultralight has some nice spec's and reviews... Im kinda lost in what I ACUTUALLY NEED.!!!!!! Ive read many articles but am just not sure because their are so many products on the market. Also I would like something that is rack mounted *I have a 4 space case wasting away* but I dont need all the extra imputs that the rack mount versions come with.... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

Out of all those you mentioned, MOTU. Reason being the M-Audio has crappy mic-preamps, and the Carvin mic preamps aren't studio quality. MOTU's drivers are also rock solid, and you can use the Ultralite as a standalone digital mixer (if you don't mind doing all your tweaking on a laptop screen or the tiny little LCD display).
