What did you do? I'm assuming you went and downloaded LAME.DLL, located it with Audacity, and hit save as MP3, right? Because that's always worked fine for me.

Maybe the version you downloaded got corrupted somehow? I've never had any trouble with LAME.

I've sworn by the LAME.DLL codec for years. I usually use it through GoldWave - Audio Editing, Recording, Conversion, Restoration, & Analysis Software

Yeah, as far as I know, LAME is pretty much the standard, especially for free software. I use it for ripping CD audio to MP3 as well. I figure the only possibilities are:

- The version he downloaded got screwed up somehow; or
- He doesn't realize that the file isn't included with Audacity and you have to download it separately.

Um, Lame is a codec - you should be able to use it through another program without having to go to the program directly.

Try downloading Goldwave's audio editor, follow the instructions on getting the codec into your Windows system folder, and try encoding through goldwave.
