![]() ![]() ![]() | A tune, some riffs - input appreciated! Okay, I've got a few things up on a SoundClick page, one of which (#55) almost approaches being a song... so I'd appreciate some commentary, input, constructive criticism, etc! Some things to keep in mind while listening: 1) My playing sucks, I'm sloppy as hell, I know this, I'm practicing I promise! ![]() 2) This is really just a clearing house for ideas and the like, so composition isn't a big concern yet 3) Per the above, these are almost all first takes 4) Ummm... I'm a drummer, so... be gentle with the guy that likes to hang out with musicians! ![]() Anyway, yeah... I'd love some pointers, especially with tone, and also some feedback on "yeah, on the right track" or "no, these completely suck, burn your guitar and apologize!" You know... that kind of thing! ![]() Oh, btw, these were recorded with an LTD M-207 (Basswood/Maple/Rosewood, Duncan Designed JB/Jazz), via Toneport GX/Gearbox, into N-track; no processing in N-track except one track on #55 Thanks in advance! ![]() MY Space - writing about depression and music MY Music - writing about depression and... well, music Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage. ~ Maya Angelou I like a little rebellion now and then. It's like a storm in the atmosphere. ~ Thomas Jefferson |

![]() | Listened to #55. I thought the riffs were cool and definitely had potential. You might want to lower the gain a fair bit though, to the point where you play a single track and think "hmm this sounds a bit weak" because then when you multi-track stuff, the gain stacks up in a way which makes it sound more gainey the more tracks you do. Just a thought... Try adding a few more mids to the sound also, or taking out a bit of the presence but leaving in the treble. Presence is good to add definition sometimes, but a lot of the time I find if the tone is very bass oriented, presence just adds fizz rather than definition, so try taking the presence down a lot, putting the treble up a bit, and maybe boosting with an overdrive pedal like the screamer or something, with the gain on about half and the drive between zero and half. I can't say too much more without hearing it in a mix or at least with some drums. I am not one to judge whether a riff is good or not unless it has drums with it. I just can't picture it a lot of the time, which makes writing hard for me because I think everything I do sucks unless I put it to drums right away. ![]() Pretty much the same thing goes for most of your other songs too man. I can't listen to all of them completely because I'm bloody tired and wana go to sleep soon. ![]() |
