Any suggestions on a new computer?

I checked out Alienware today, to build the custom box that I want is going to cost me $2400! I am, however, aware of the fact that they are a tad overpriced.
I don't want to spend more than $2k on my new computer, but I want it to be a hot rod so I don't have to get another one for a long time.

Thanks in advance

www.monarchcomputer.com

Pick the components you want, and they'll put it together for you, and test it. You can even get a 3yr. warranty. Here's a comparison:

Alienware:

  • AMD 3500+
  • 2x250gig hard drives
  • 2gig of RAM
  • DVD-R/W

$2350

Monarchcomputer.com, using the same premium components as Alienware, such as cpu, motherboard, ram, and hard drives:

$1528.99

For the price of the Alienware, you could get an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ dual core, and two 400gig drives from Monarch.

You could get a dual core 3800+ AMD system from Monarch for that, which would hand that Cyberpower system its own ass. Intel's dual core stuff sucks.

I'm a Mac person. I'll take my dual processor G-5 over any Windoze based system. But I do have a Voodoo brand pc that I won. I don't do much gaming but it kicks ass when I do.

Dude, Alienware is retardedly overpriced. If you're familiar with putting together your own PC just do it yourself. You can get a top notch dual core setup for even lower than a grand if you get the stuff through Newegg.com. That's what I do.

Thanks guys. I would have put it together my self, but I don't have the time or enough understanding of what I'm doing.
I don't mind spending the money because I work too much to be able to enjoy most of my paycheck.
Any way I ended up with a sweet box and all the stuff I wanted (3 gig pentium D processer, 7.1 sound, firewire, bla bla, but most important, a 21" LCD Monitor)
It should be here in less than 2 weeks.
