![]() | Hi, I need new stereo speakers and I also need monitors for recording. So as I have read in another hread here, that some people also use their monitors as regular stereo speakers for listening to music, I thought this might be a good solution for me. I don't know much about it, so I thought I'd ask here as many of you seem to be very knowledgeable on this. Someone recommended me JBL control 5 speakers. What do you guys think? Would they be a good solution for monitors AND regular home-stereo speakers? I also saw smaller JBL's called control 1, what about those? What other monitors that I could also use for normal home stereo use would you recommend? I don't want to spend more than say 400$-500$. Could I get good speakers for that or even less? Or would I have to spend more money? Thanks, Lars |

Good speakers, regardless of home or studio use, should have flat response. JBLs are good for the price, but may be a little bright and harsh in the top end, resulting in your mixes sounding dull as you try to compensate. I'd say you're better off with a soft, dark sounding speaker so your mixes come out punchy and bright. (by dark I don't mean bass-heavy, I mean not harsh in the treble) |

![]() | To use studiomonitors as listening speakers as well is absolutely doable! That will just train up your ears and get used to the monitors ![]() I would go for Alesis M1 Active. Acctually i did go for those..hehe. They are cheap and they play verry good! They give alittle too much bass, but you can controll that on the back of the speakers. I would think they cost around $300 - $400. The thing with speakers is that you have to get to know them! It doesnt matter if they cost $300 og $300 000. If you dont know how they sound and what they sound like you dont have a chance anyway! So...my advice is what i said above...buy someone not too expensive, but that is made by a wellknown brand in the studioworld! |

![]() | Thanks guys ! I think I would want to get passive speakers, as I will connect them to my Hi-Fi's amp/tuner. |

![]() | Yes, while that is indeed a good idea, I still need speakers for my home stereo, so I thought, I might try to get good monitors that I can use for both recording and regular listening. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | That's a better idea. Mixing on headphones is difficult, as you have to get used to how things will sound on speakers afterwards, compared to how they sound on the headphones. Mixing on speakers is the best idea. |

![]() | What do you guys think of the brand Behringer for monitor speakers? They seem to be very low priced, anybody have experience with Behringer monitors? |

I use Active Alesis MKII monitors, and an old stereo hifi for headphones and another set of speakers. They are cheap I think and at least you don't have to worry about an Amp. | |
