Need help mixing this

I need some help mixing a new tune. This is my first attempt at recording acoustic guitar and vocals (just got an AT2020 mic) and I have a lot to learn. I realize there are some clams in there but I figured I'd better get it 'finished' before I lost interest and ended up with ANOTHER song "waiting to be finished"

Tear it apart!

Unless you are trying for the "unpolished but sincere" vocal lines, then I would pull the voice back a bit and add some wide stereo reverb, with a long delay, but mixed very subtely (think massive concert hall).

Dropped the vocals a bit, changed the reverb. Better? Worse? Keith should stop trying to sing and just stick to noodling where noone can hear him?

Do you have any other mics? It might be helpful to use another one on the acoustic (say, have the AT2020 at a distance, and a good dynamic like an i5 or 57 at an angle over the 12th fret or straight on the top-part-thing-where-a-cutaway-on-a-Strat-would-be) for a less 2D image.

Yeah, best acoustic sound I ever got was from an Oktava MK012 on the soundhole, and a friends nameless condenser on the neck.......the tone was to die for, best acoustic tone I've ever recorded.

You need to check your recordings if you use two mics to make sure phase cancellation isn't a problem - generally, the 3 to 1 rule is good enough to start with and at most minor tweaks are needed.

I have an old dynamic kicking around - I'll give it a try when I get home today.

Sounds pretty good dude! A little raw but I love the overall acoustic tone. Dialed in a little more it should be warm as hell.

Only side note: The verse riff sounds dangerously close to Every Rose Has It's Thorn.

Yes, yes it is. G/C is a dangerous progression. I've considered changing the key just to get away from Every Rose
