Your Bass Heavy mixes are more likely the result of the combination of a non-ideal studio monitor setup along with some lack of room treatment, and then your own eq skills.

Traditionally, I do not mix with the subwoofer on, but I test the mix on my home stereo & my ipod just to see how they translate on devices most likely used for playback.

Whatever you monitors are good at, is what your mix will lack because you're not hearing the mix objectively through objective equipemnt.

DHFS does work fine with Pro Tools.
OOOOOOOOOH.....now I see. Thanks for the response.

pro tools......

digidesign Pro tools is such a Huge platform to talk about. I started with LE moved to HD now I am a Trained Pro Tools HD operator Certified. Now hardware is a whole different story. I understand how it hooks up software wise but some of the hardware is dawnting to me. I run two G5 Macs one for Plugins..waves Diamond etc..the other for Pro tools HD3.I have a few outboard pre's and i am always upgrading this part of my system I have been through API's..Manley...Millenia..Pultec...Apogee..and i would never consider presonus/art/joe meek/DBX...and your system is only as good as the monitors aswell..Most people here on this board are fimilar with LE or some form a Mbox or Digi 001-003.yes the platform is the same but other then that is it A totally different world. There is no latency plops..digz...draggers..or aliens secretly hiding. I have waited for ever to talk on this topic. But please specify the hatred towards Protools towards Le or something less superior..Because Pro tools Hd and accel are the top of the recording world for a reason ..it is freaking insane..but in a good way.I am always open to helping you guys with Pro tools issues just PM me..

Your DAW will facilitate getting good results, but it won't guarantee them. There are plenty of people here getting awesome results with other programs.

The ability to take your projects into expensive pro studios is great, but is that likely to happen anytime soon? If you're going to be recording at home for some time to come, why pay out for an option you're not going to use?

Take a look at Cubase, Logic, and Nuendo, 'cause it sounds like any of them would serve your puposes equally well. They're all popular programs with tons of online support and unofficial tutorials/help. They'll all work with your Toneport.

it is very complicated and a little snobbish at times too! And to completely understand!..i think Pro tools is more of a professional based software/hardware..as where others like Sonar,Cubase, Logic, and Nuendo are more software based and to me easier to use on a Small budget and dam they do have the same result's. I have done stuff for guys who record everything at a Home studio then bring it in where i can Mix..and add to the mix with a few exspensive toys to make the mix better..brighter..heavier..etc.. High end pre's or expanders..or de-essers.as a Pro tools hd guy i cannot tell you how many people ask me questions about LE or M-Powered..all i can say is it is a good entry level pro tools application, but for serious stuff you need HD.as your final outcome.

Just to add something to this, somebody mentioned that Pro Tools is the industry standard. That not 100% correct really. Pro Tools LE, which is the affordable one is not the industry standard, Pro Tools HD is.

Whilst LE feeds HD, the hardware that comes with LE software ain't the best. But hey, unless you're recording an album, you only need LE.

I use a Mbox 2, so Pro Tools LE. It does the job, but ain't the best.

When I have the funds, I'll be upgrading to HD, then I can be assured that the hardware isn't shite.

The only other software I would use is Logic. It's a big mindf#$k for a lot of people despite it's name, but the onboard FX are mindblowing.

This is great info. I'd add that there is no right or wrong interface, sometimes it's just trial & error. Most people I know use Pro Tools, whilst others are die hard Cubase users. You'll find one of them to make more sense to your brain, go with that one.
