![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | New drum sound testing Trying to create a decent drum sound without too much compression that'll let all the elements of the kit and all the ghost notes and things come through clearly in mixes. Came up with this. What do you think of the kit sound, specifically the kick and toms? "You might as well be suckin' Wes Borland's no-talent dick if you play with any more than six strings on your fucking guitar." - A Blabbermouth genius |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Man it sounds awesome...Although the toms sound a bit too digital. The snare and the kit overall sounds really good, I just didn't like the toms too much. |

![]() ![]() | Toms have too much high end attack, imo. Kick could stand to be a tad bit louder, too. Otherwise, it's all pretty balanced. Your ass here! |

![]() | As said, the toms are sounding a bit too digital. Try to get some more warmth and "boom" on the toms and you'll have yourself a real nice organic drum sound methinks. The snare sound unbelievably good. All the ghost notes and the mini snare roll are amazing! ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks a lot for the input. This is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for. I was quite pleased with the toms. I love the tom sound on Pagan's Mind albums, and was going for that. I'll try to tweak them some, then. I'm surprised the kick sounds thin. I've boosted it at 70hz, shaved a little mid off, and added a little click at around 3k. It sounds quite boomy for me. I'll have to go back to the drawing board on that. I was going for a sort of Donati type kick sound. Thanks for the solid criticisms, dudes! Rep for all. |

![]() | Leec, we may have different goals in drum production but I disagree with the notion that compression somehow muddies up or makes unclear ghost notes and such. If anything it makes ghost notes more audible by making them louder. The trick is play with the attack and release settings. Also, I like to throw a gate on the final stage so there is not too much bleed through. I do agree that you should get the best sound possible by EQing before compression is applied. This is just personal opinion but I think the drums sound good but are a bit thin. The snare sounds pretty good. |
