A few recording questions...

I have my 'tone of God' going through my amp, just how I want it.
I also have it mic'd juuust right, except the bass is way too 'boomy' and if I take it out by lessening the bass on my amp, it sounds too thin, same if I do it in Cakewalk... Any suggestions?

Also, for recording vocals.
I really like a lot of gain behind the vocals, so I've been running them through a guitar effects processor to get that sound, but they come out sounding like, well, a guitar.
What ways can I add that gain without using a guitar processor, are there vocal ones as well?

If you close-mic your amp, then move the mic a little bit away from the center of the speaker towards its edge (not further away from the speaker), and that should lessen the low-end. My philosophy: always work with mic positioning before you starting futzing around with the amp settings or EQ on the board. Well, actually, my current philosophy is to plug a PODxt right into the board, but you get the idea...

What do mean "gain" on the vocals? Distortion, or simply lots of body? If you want full vocals (and your vocal mic doesn't suck), consider recording through an outboard tube pre-amp with the input gain reasonably high, and use some compression. Since I do mostly instrumental work, I almost never have to deal with this, but those are the time-tested methods.

If you want to distort or fuzz up the vocals a bit, I'd say do it with a plugin if you're recording digitally (any amp modeller or distortion or fuzz plugin will do the trick with some "knob" tweaking), but if you just want them warmed up, definitely a tube pre-amp will work nicely.

Where do I get plugins from?
I have Cakewalk Professional 8.

If it didn't come with plugins (it should have), just google for "free cakewalk plugins", or start using different software.
