Cheapest Multi Tracking?
What is the cheapest way to record several tracks(7) on to a computer. I have Cake Walk Pro 9, Sound Forge 6 and Guitar Pro 4. What kind of interface do in need to do this? Do I need additional software?

Cheap yet decent: M-Audio Firewire 410
You'll also need a goodly amount of RAM, as most come to find out the first time they try running multiple tracks at once. |

Yeah, I still need to up my computer a bit, at least another 512, probably another gig. 12-16 or so tracks at a time, maybe 5 of them looped drum beats, with a good amount of FX processing seems to be about the most my computer can take (512mb) in Sonar 3.
Do you need to record 7 tracks at once, or just be able to mix 7 tracks recorded seperately? If so, I'd try the Krystal audio engine freeware multitracker - I don't remember the address off the top of my head, but it looks pretty decent and Ken Burtch tried it recently with good result. You CAN run a mic straight into your computer, but you'll get better results if you have a mic pre in line, or use a dedicated recording interface. I've been using the M-Audio Firewire 410, and the thing rocks. Simple, and it sounds great.
