How can i get a "natural" sounding recording for cheap?
I want to start recording soon so I was checking out the Line 6 Toneport and it sounds too "digital" and "fake" from the sound clips ive heard so far. And IMO my shitty $80 camera recorded better sound...
... but of course i cant do recording that way. So I was wondering what are my options other than buying a mic and interface? I'm looking for something under $200 since I need money left over to buy EZdrummer. thanks.

If you want a real tube amp sound there's no secret : interface + mic. I use a Toneport UX2 in preamp mode and a Seinheiser e906 myself, sound pretty good

the i5 is agreat sounding mic, though I've never used it with a Toneport.
Also, The Dark Wolf raves about a $20 SM57/58 clone Behringer makes that he finds louder and clearer than the real thing. I would normally say just go with the 57 and be done with it since everyone uses them and they're damned near indestructible, but for $20, if you're on a budget and the thing sounds good than why the hell not...? You'll also want some kind of a mic stand - either a short tripod or a full boom stand or something. Mic positioning is CRUCIAL.

hmm...
I was also looking at the PreSonus Inspire last night and I thought of it two ways: - PreSonus makes great gear, so this can't be a 100% piece of shit - If my shitty camera mic records decently so should SOME other cheap gear right? I'll check out that $20 Behringer mic sometime before I go buy the Audix i5 |

Get the toneport, take the line output from your amp and plug that into the Line input on the toneport. Use the speaker cab sims on the toneport without the actual amp modeling and you'll be able to use your amp to record without having to use the models on the toneport(which do sound good if you know what you are doing.)
Do NOT use the speaker output, the LINE output is what you want. |

The only "out" thing I see on this thing says "Pre Out" and I still don't know what that's for. And also, I just thought about this a while ago... If that Behringer mic is so great I'd like to hear sound clips with it or something. ![]() |

The "Pre Out" will work. Do you have the toneport? Or are you judging it based on some soundclips you heard on the net?

![]() I don't own the TonePort because I'm still thinking about either getting the TonePort (GX or UX1) or the PreSonus Inspire. Yes, I judged the Toneport from soundclips and though thats not the best way to check something out, I listened to TONS of 'em and they all had that fake digital sound I hate. But there was ONE video that sounded decent... YouTube - Line 6 Toneport with Rifftracker the thing is, I'm not sure whether he's getting his sound from the TonePort or the Rifftracker. |
