Is this prompted by a question about a limiting plug-in that can go by peak or RMS?

The short answer is "too loud."

the long answer is grab a metal album you like, rip a track to .wav, open it in your editor, then pull up the plugin and have it spit back the "current" RMS value.

"...and everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon."

It was actually just a curious question. I didn't know if there was an industry standard or something.

The industry standard is, sadly, "louder than everyone else."

nbarts will become famous soon enough
Most of tracks end up -10 to -14db. Good sounding ones not more than -14, loud sounding ones go sometimes up to -9db.
