Recording programs

hey guys
i want to get a small recording setup for myself, my friend has one of those just plug in a mic/guitar and go recorders and i dont really like them that much. id rather go for a good program and a mixer/soundboard. im not sure what i want or what programs are good enough to get semi-professional recordings. i was looking into Logic pro, and someone told me cubase.

i also am not sure about how the mixer would work on my computer (i have a macbook pro) i know most likley by usb, but would the track feed straight from the mixer into to the program?

I have a PreSonus INSPIRE 1394 FireWire Audio Interface. It works for me and it is simple. There are many others though, but i have only had experience with this. I have been using Adobe Audition 2.0 and it is very simple and easy to use, but i need to upgrade to probably Cubase for VST support because i just got DFHS. I have friends that use Cubase and swear by it. I have heard that Sonor is pretty easy and functional as well.

Also, can anyone here recommend a good version of Cubase? Is SE good? I have been looking into SE and was looking into SX3, but it has been discontinued....

just would like to hear anyone's thoughts and opinions here.

Any help on this would be awesome too.

Logic

Logic pro FTW....the new Logic Studio package has more than enough of what you would need to get semi (or even truly) pro recordings...the rest is up to you and your own recording chops....its gotten much easier to use with the latest update as well....hope that helps...Cheers...
